    Greetings,

I have a 66' Skylark GS that is all original front to back with the exception of a Ford radiator that one of the PO's managed to "squeeze" in there and a new Edelbrock carb. All the numbers match and the odometer says ~69K. Although I haven't been in the motor, the interior and other areas of the car don't indicate that the odo has rolled....

I've got some gasket issue in multiple places and leaky freeze plugs and plan on pulling the motor to freshen it up. I plan to give it a stiff honing and re-ring the pistons and replace all of the bearings, seals, and gaskets.

Now for the snowball effect, anybody put the TH2004R with a posi rear end behind a stock 401?

Looking for a little feedback before I start crunching the numbers and writing checks...

Any info or advice would be appreciated.

    =Eric

You'll need an adapter, as the Nail takes its own bell housing. Sometimes you get lucky, and the adapter perfectly measures the difference in length between the old trans and the 200-4R. Last one I did was a swap into an AMX that had a TH-400, it worked out perfectly as the adapter was just right to make up the difference in length. I just needed an adapter u-joint to make the 200-4R yoke fit the driveshaft.

    I put a 200R4 and a posi in my 65 with a 401!!!!
You will need an adapter to mate the eng/trans,,,likely your best bet for an adapter is to get one from bernstants (not too suire of the spelling of that,,,just "google" transmission adapters,,they'll be in there somewhere!!!!) I used an "adapter",,if you can call it that,,from nwspeed,,,it was a piece of garbage that spent a fair bit of time at a machine shop before I could make it work!!!
As far as 200R4's go,,,the best ones came in Buick (of course) Grand Nationals,,,go to turbo buicks website and you'll dig up a lot of info,,,and possibly a transmission that's already been built for sale!!!
You'll need to shorten or build a new driveshaft,,,the Buick ones have some kind of rubber insulator that can't be shortened to the length your likely to need!!!!
    I put a posi and 3;55 gears in mine,,,with a 255/50/17 tire,,,I "should" be around 1770 rpm at 60mph!!!
Hope this helps a bit!!!!! Chris

Thanks for the info...I'll dig around for the "extra stuff" that I'll need.

I have spent numerous hours on the TurboBuicks site gathering info for the Grand National. Now that she's where she should be maintenance wise, I can focus my attention back to the GS.

    Thanks again,

The January 2000 issue of Hot Rod has a complete tech article on swapping a 200r4 into a Skylark.

What did you end up doing with the driveshaft? Did you mod the existing, or have one made?

I noticed from your Photobucket that you don't have the Nailhead in your Skylark.

Are you planning on putting the 2004R behind the existing motor, or are you putting a Nailhead back in?

    Just curious....
