Hello from Finland! I have -66 Skylark with 350 and I'd like to replace cast exhaust manifolds to headers. Does anyone here have -66 Skylark with 350 and headers? How much modification headers needed to fit? Am I right TA Performance is only manufacturer for those headers? -Juha
I think the TA catalog states their headers DO NOT fit that chassis with a 350 installed . tried it on my 65 - passenger side only minor adjustment needed , not a big deal . driver side major adjustment needed , I think a couple tubes ran right into k-frame etc . I posted some pics awhile ago .
bought my friends 65 w/350 and hookers. only massage was on #1 cyl pipe by the control arm. they now reside in our 67 w/350.
was not sure what brand headers I tried - bought a "well used" set to trial fit . an older KB catalog listing stated their part number fit 64 n up chassis ?
all the sets I have are all the same. have no p/n. but they are large tubes which will help if your going to do upgrades.
Please forgive my ignorance. These headers will work on the Buick 350. BUT: will that combination work/fit in a '66 'Lark? A bit of massaging I can understand, and do. :TU: But I've no desire to do a bunch of chopping and bodywork on the car...:eek2: I've got enough of that to do already. LOL:spank::blast:
Thanks Sean! I admit that I'm not the most knowledged "wrench" out there. LOL I bow to those more experienced than I. (If I were to do this my uncle would be the guy I'll go to for the cutting/welding.) I'm just musing ideas to wake mine up some more. Although I don't really want to sacrifice the economy I get with it now. I know that, (usually), when one increases performance, economy suffers. And vice versa. But there are some thing that can do both, yes? That said, wouldn't the removal of exhaust gasses in a more efficient manner make an improvement in both categories?o No: I'm trying to learn more here. Please be patient with me.
FALSE. you do not have to cut or weld anything. #1 cyl tube will be dented about 3/8" inch in. the headers i have came out of a 65 with a 350 and installed in a 67 with a 350. 66 is no different. this is with hooker headers.
Yes testing has shown headers will help fuel economy and power, so yes it is a win win..... The only thing I find is that with more power on tap it is too much fun to use it so the fuel mileage goes down... That is great news! All the other people I have heard of putting headers in the 64-67 Skylarks had to cut them up but the Hookers are the way to go by your experience... The TA and Poston headers do not fit without cutting.
Not that I have heard of.... I stand corrected about the need to cut and re-weld the ALL brands of headers to fit... As Johnny pointed out the Hookers only require a dent so that is a HUGE WIN for the people with 350s in the 64-67 cars!
Andy did you see this? That 65 you have would be a great car for the stroker build. Those cars are lighter than the 66-72 versions and now you know which headers to get.(if it goes in the 65):TU: Derek
Hey Johnny, I'm not a member over there so no I can't say I have read your writings from there. Can you post a link? Derek
Same here. :/ This is the only Forum I belong to... unless you count FB. I'm very limited as to when I can use the web. Like once a week. If I could check everyday it'd be different. Nice to know about the pipe restriction. I hadn't looked at the diameter differences. Yet.
