I am trying to find a match for the original gray paint used on the shocks in 1966. I'm pretty sure they were a dark gray. I have an original spiral shock which is a dark satin/flat gray finish.

I've spent $20 trying various gray paints but they are all too light when compared to the original shock.

Has anyone found a good off-the-shelf match for this dark gray?

    Jason,

I had the same problem when I painted mine. I must have gone to 5 different parts/retail stores to find the right color. No can do. I ended up painting them cast blast but I wasn't satisfied.

Several vendors sell "shock grey paint" but a local alternative That's accepted at Bloomington Gold, is krylon stonewashed denim. I find it at a local hardware store. It's spot on to the original spiral shocks I have.

I wanted to see this "Stonewashed Denim" for myself but had difficulties finding it on Krylon's website. So, to save y'all the trouble, here it is:

    http://www.krylon.com/products/indooroutdoor_paint/

It's under their multi-purpose paints, type Indoor/Outdoor. Click on the small color splotch (top row) to get a larger sample. Stonewashed Denim is number 53545.

I agree -- it looks dead nuts the same as the original spiral shocks I've seen (at least on my computer). Medium gray with a hint of blue.

Thanks Guys. Yes the color chip looks just right as you say. I'll give it a try.

    Thanks again:TU:
