I have seen quite a few 65 Rivieras that have been restored with trunk spatter paint and am wondering if this is correct?

My car has the truck panel kit and the fiber cloth truck liner that has since been removed to reveal great sheetmetal. The sheetmetal from the underside of the shelf tray to the floor to the sides of the truck area is sprayed with red-ish colored paint or factory rust inhibitor.

Hot Rod Magazine is currently restoring an early 60's 409 Biscayne and they featured an article showing the car on a rotiserie with this same colored "factory" coating being applied to the underside sheetmetal, trunk, etc. The floor pans on my car are also treated with this.

Is this paint/coating available? Hot Rod actually created their own by mixing a couple of paints to get the desired "rough textured" effect that the factory used.

    comments?

    Carl,
The spatter paint is not correct. All Rivs had a liner.

    thanks for the input.

I found a correct color of primer at the local Ace hardware called Ruddy Brown and it is almost spot on to what originally came from the factory.

I will be applying POR 15 to the bottom (inside) of the trunk for piece of mind and then applying the reddish primer. Body colored overspray is visible on the rear trunk shelf and along the edges if the inside of the trunk...which will be replicated after the primer is applied.

    thanks again
