I have a 1965 riviera with a 465 Wildcat 465 Air Filter, so should be a 425 cui LW engine. But the engine production code # is "K......W....518" Engine serial # "7k1199047" Anybody can tell what kind of engine this is? Is the engine serial normally identical with the VIN ? Mine is not. For Pontiacs there is PHS as complete identification service based on the VIN. Is there a similar source for Buick? Thanks Andre

7=Series (Riviera), K=Year (1964), 1=Assembly Plant (Flint Mi), 199047=Production Number (sequence). So it looks like you have a replacement engine. In 65, the Vin coding changed and only the last 8 digits of the vin were stamped on the engine and they were coded differently. HTH - Cheryl
thanks so far ! So as the 425 (340HP) of 64 is identical to the 425 of 65, according to my information, not too bad, or? How can I find out what my car originally has been, 401, 425/340HP or 425/360 ? For Pontiac there is PHS-onlinedotcom as source based on VIN.... anything for buick ?
The Riviera Owners Association is a great resorce for answers to questions about production and other info. rivowners.org They sold 454 non GS Rivs in '65 with the Super Wildcat
If the original owners manual is in the glove box, there will be engine information on the last page or perhaps on the data-plate (if so equipped) The single four barrel 425 (LW) was the least produced engine for the '65 Riviera. The standard engine was a 401 (LT), the next highest production was the super wildcat (LX). Check the ROA's website for production numbers for each year. www.rivowners.org Ed
I cannot find the engine code on my new 65 Riv. I believe I have a 401 but still have not been able to verify.
