I have a problem. I just rebuilt the carb on my original 60k Riv (very clean) and the car is leaking nothing. It is solid and the tranny shifts smooth. But when I press on the gas pedal hard, there is a hesitation between the gas pedal and the linkage on the carb. It almost acts like its flooding it sputters almost for a second sometimes, but then it catches and takes off (burning some rubber). If I manuall open up the carb it roars with no heistation. The linkage is kinda bent but I had my mechanic look at it and he works on these things all the time and he cant figure it out. Any suggestions???

    thanks everyone!!!

Pro , If the rochchester carb is a qjet, I would think that the secondary air valve is probably opening too soon causing a lean 'bog' that would be accompanied with a backfire or sputter in the intake and then the car would come on strong. If the bog is bad enough or the eng is not warmed up good a lot of times it will go ahead and die. You might try tightening the secondary air valve spring to make it open later. This is the famous Qjet bog. The secondary air valve is the set of butterflies between the manually operated ones in the baseplate and the top of the carb. I have seen some guys decide to take these out and this will not work . I have also seen guys loosen the secondary spring and 99% of the time the result is secondary bog. Dont ask me how I know but I know. [LOL] Hope this helps, Doc
