1965 electra with power drum brakes. When I depress the brake while engine is running, the pedal will not come back up by itself. But seems to work fine when engine is turned off. I replaced the master cylinder and a busted line and bled the whole system. What is wrong??? Does the big spring in the booster have anything to do with this?

I have just the opposite problem with a 66 skylark, the pedal is rock hard all the time.

Try putting a vaccum gage on the power brake booster to see if it holds vaccum. Maybe the diaphram is faulty.

I'm assuming you have power brakes.

    Just a thought.

It seems to hold vacuum pretty well. After running the engine,I turn it off and maybe 5 minutes later press the brake pedal and I still have enough vacuum for power booster to help assist the brakes for 1 time. Is there supposed to be a spring on the pedal or linkage other than the spring in the master cylinder??

You should have a brake pedal return spring under the dashboard to return the pedal. Maybe yours is broken or missing. Also, maybe the return spring in your master cylinder is broken. Just thought I'd put that out there. -Josh

No it was used. I have two buicks and just swapped them.
