Hello, as I bring the electrical stuff back online on my 64 special project car, as of now, I get the GEN and OIL idiot lights to come on when I turn the key to the on position. Is the TEMP idiot light supposed to come on with the key in the on position before start up also? Or does it only come on once the temperature threshold has been crossed and that switch on the engine closes(?). I'd like to diagnose if the light works as it should. Thanks.
The temp light will only test when the sw is in the start position (cranking) when the sw is in the start position it provides a ground for the temp light to test it. The oil pressure light will test in the on position because the light comes on when there is no oil pressure and the gen light will come on when there is no output from the alt. If you want to test the temp light you should be able to do so by running it to ground at the sensor. Hope it helps.
