hey all you Riv experts. i have a guy that is trying to unload a 64' on me but i have NOOOOO idea what the thing is worth. the body is really straight with very little rust,i DO remember that!!. i can't remember the interior much as it has been awhile since i looked at the car(but i will be getting pix soon). the problem is the motor is in a basket, lol, and a few boxes. and as i recall he said it was a 430 wildcat.??? is that a 401" ? title is there and all the paper works are in order.

    soooooo

without seeing pix i know yall will have a heck of a time helpin' me here. BUTTTTTT if i could get a ballpark figure ???? also is this something someone might be interested in as a project or do i start stripping it and selling off the parts ????? i am really in NO need for another car at all !!!! but if i could help yall with parts or get someone set up with a project,????? that would be fine for me. if it were a 66'/67' lark or g.s. i would own it already. it's definately not junk !

ANY comments or help would be appreciated..............

    425 or 401

Well, I certainly don't claim to be an expert on anything but...
I'm pretty sure the 430 was not available on a '64 riviera.
It should have a nailhead motor.
The 425 or maybe the 401.
    "unload" is a relative term.
How much does that guy want to sell it for?
What kind of options is it equipped with?
I will wait untill you get those pictures before I offer up any opinions on what I think it's worth and whether or not I'd be interested in it or just parts of it.
You could even e-mail them to me, if you'd like.
Thanx for lettin' us know about it.:TU:

    Robert,

the guy that has it wants my BB regal as a roller, thus he has offered up a trade of sorts. thats why i asked here. i havent seen the car in a couple years, but i do remember that it seemed really straight. its white with a greyish' interior. thats about all i can remember for sure. the 430 term i used was in reference to the torque rating on the air cleaner. would that make it a 401" , or 425" ?? i will know more later after i see the car again and the pix of course. i just dont need another car laying around, and to be honest i have a deal going and i am assembling a list of some Buick parts and cars that i will be selling off, be it through the board here, or e-bay. sometimes you just have to move on, or get run over. besides that once in awhile you just need to have a clean-up.

so, anyways thats why i asked. i havent really ever been into the ole riv's but i know some out there are. so i asked to see if there is enough interest in the car to justify letting my regal go. and understanding that it will receive the BB Chevy treatment when i do. i love saving the old ones when i can, but after a priority change, you do what you have to go fast without raiding the kids collage fund, lol.

i'll keep you updated if you or anyone else is interested.??????

445 Wildcat is the 401, 465 Wildcat is the 425.

Watch out Dave, you'll fall in love with that car, and probably Kris too. They are about the neatest, classiest car to have. I'd say it is worth the Regal if in comparable shape.

Post some photos and we'll see. What's do you figure the Regal is worth?

    hey Adam,

whats up? i have no idea what the regal is really worth either. it's a basic roller that could go back to the street if needed. a little info...... 81', BBB mounts in and ready , crossmember built from a "A" body with the dual humps for exhaust, and a 9" ford rear with some adjustments to the rear control arms as per Comp's recommendations. the interior is all there cept' for the headliner. and the heater/ac box has been removed. good body and has a new qrtr. top stretched on it. i was building it for the RM class at the nats, but as i alluded to plans and priorities have indeed changed for me.

and besides that i am not good at all in regards to the setting a price on anything to sell. i ususally sift throught he board here if i have something i want to get rid of, get a basic price, and go from there. so i will offer up the question to you ???? whats it worth ? any ideas ?

as far as the riv goes , i figured if i could pass it along to someone here i would be helping out in another "saving". and at the same time getting rid of the regal in the process. i just have too many cars and it's was time to step back, take a look and come to the hard realization that i can't save them all. a few people that know me will be a little surprised when they see my "list" when i finish it up and post all the stuff for sale. but if done right, we will increase the Buick count by me selling out. other than losing. see my point ?

    thanks for the reply.......................

I feel your pain. Even if I had all the money, the time to do too many projects can kill you too. Put them both together and it's like being buried.

I'd say with the mods you have to the regal I'd look for the riv to be in a bit better shape. The riv should be worth more in equal condition, but with a basket nailhead that hurts. They are spendy to build. However the Riv is also pretty popular and growing more-so. I'd be interested depending on condition. :Dou: Did I just say that? Well, because of my time situation, it'd have to be pretty good other than the engine. I think you're onto a potentially profitable swap though. I'd look the riv over closely and see if its a put-it-back-together proposition, or a complete redo project.

    64 Riv engine

The 425 was the only engine available in a 64 Riviera. Unless it's been switched at some point it is a 425.

    Re: 64 Riv engine

    I am not a Riv expert but I thought in 64 you could get a 401 or a 425.

In 63 you could get either. 64 was 425 only.
