Perfect patina.. What transmission does it come with? https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/d/64-buick-wagon/6446467244.html
Not sure what was original equipment in that wagon. All TH400s were three speeds. Exception being aftermarket 2 speed drag race applications.
IF in fact it has he "Nail" in it, it will have a TH400. I believe ALL LeSabre wagons came equipped with a Nail" in this time period.
Yup, early Turbo 400 with a Nail. Might be that thing's only redeeming feature. I'm not sure I like the urine-yellow "patina" though. It would depend how well it runs, what's left of the interior and if it had any options in it. Basic trim and crank windows, - forget it.
I really like the front end, and that it is a wagon, but when you look too long at it, the back windows is just too long and square
I love those back windows! They were as stated standard with 401. First year of the 400 transmission, ask Tom T about that! Not a switch pitch the first year. the 64 Wagons were built on the Wildcat frame vs the LeSabre frame; therefore engine options were the same as Wildcats. Optional engines = Wildcat 465 and Super Wildcat; standard trans was 3 on the tree, 4-speed was a option but super rare. like 14
I could be wrong but weren't those early th400's really th375's as I thought I read somewhere they had a smaller output like a st300/th350 Either way better than a Dynaflow. Neat car, you don't see many. Regards,
The output was the same as the later 400's. The change was the tail-housing. From small '64-'67 & larger from '68 on. The early ones had the smaller yoke that's only available used & the early tail bushing & seal is harder to find. The later yokes are available NEW. The early & late swap out so the bushing, seal & yoke in the later unit CAN be installed on the earlier unit. AND, the '64 unit CAN'T be changed to a switch-pitch ALL others can.
That one I'd pass on. Cost to get it, at least, presentable would be to much. Then there's any mechanical issues that will need to be addressed.
