Hello, I am trading chev 327 and th350 for complete 1961 skylark with the 215 v8 in it . I know it sounds stupid but, i want to pull the 215 and put a 455 in it. Has anyone done this. and i was wondering how much this car weighs

There's always this car, which I'd love to have:

He went a long ways with large modifications. The stock 61/62 Special/Skylark had a much smaller (physically) motor, with a different steering linkage setup and a two-piece driveshaft with a carrier bearing.

There may be a difference between Skylark and Special taillights, but the 62's on the Bombsight have a rectangular taillight that sort of wraps around to the side.

The picture of the 61 Skylark is the same:

Maybe the Specials did? Jim Burek, who built the 455 Pro Street car mentioned using Skylark taillights on it.

Look at the top one the 4 door t looks like it has round tail lights. Maybe the 4 doors had different tail lights and rear quarters.

You're right - it has that extra little fin inside the scallop at the rear.

    According to some source I can't remember, a 62 Skylark 2-door with the 215 aluminum V8 weighs 2707lbs.

In other words, 450 HP at the wheels should put you in the mid 10's. :)

    James,

I'm not going to say I won't make it, but if I were to it likely wouldn't be with my car - I'd just spectate. Even if I were to have it all ready to go and race ready, I don't have a trailer or a vehicle capable of pulling a trailer with my car on it.

I really like the Bend area. We went there a few years ago and did some late spring skiing and stayed at Sunriver. We also used to go there when I was a kid. That drive down the highway is brutal though, with the two lanes and 55mph speed limit!

    That would be awesome

That would be cool if you come and watch and just hang out. I was born here in bend. I never understood why people come here for vacation but that is probably because i have been here my whole life. But we do have 4 lane highways now.

I'd say that they come there for vacation because there's so much to offer that most of us "big town city dwellers" don't have so easily at our disposal.

Think of it this way - everywhere is a vacation destination for someone...

Once the date gets closer and things are firmed up, I'll see what I've got going and make a decision. It looks like the strip is about an hour out of Bend?
