1960 Keep the Edelbrock or go Carter?

Last summer I bought a 1960 Invicta with the original 401 in it. The previous owner had replaced the original carburetor with an Edelbrock. Of course he eliminated the bowl fuel filter and the gas pedal start. There is now a push button to engage the starter. Unfortunately, he did not connect the kick down linkage for the transmission. The question I have is there a kit to connect the edelbrock to the kick down lever from the tranny? The other option is to replace the edelbrock with an original carburetor. I have a parts car that has the original setup but it would require rebuilding the carburetor. Any ideas?

Rebuild the original carb and use the stock setup. Throw that Edelbrock POS in the garbage . . .

Um . . . yeah. I don't really want to argue about it, but in my opinion, they're not very user-friendly for doing any adjustment. I've gone through 3 brand new ones out of the box before I found one that didn't have something wrong with it, and actually worked.

Something other than an Edelbrock is an improvement.

I gotta say that my Edelbrock ran perfectly right out of the box, and has had no problems that were the fault of Edelbrock in the almost three years since I originally installed it. I would buy another one. Having said that, If I had the option of rebuilding an original Carter for your application, I would do so. I'd want the original pedal start and stock linkages.

If the car runs good then get the linkage plate that you need for the trans. If the carb needs work then you need to start deciding on what to do. You can pretty much assume the original carb needs to be rebuilt if it's been sitting for a bit, and that will cost you alot more than a trans linkage will.

Personally I always liked Edelbrocks since I could care less about adjusting for that last tenth of a second on the strip like some guys do. They tend to be pretty much throw on and go type units which work well for people who don't have the time/patience/resources to be tinkering with an oem carb. Since it's also a direct copy of your original unit you get the joy of being able to go back and forth to decide which works best for you and your motor :TU:

Why not take the ebrock and transfer the original throttle arm off of the carter and hook up the foot start like factory???? I am like John, I like the foot start... and while i prefer Holley carbs , I aint gonna badmouth another brand , cause that is like cussing someones mother....

I was wondering when you would chime in, Doc! I didn't mention the Holley because he only mentioned the two carbs that you would call brands X.
