So this is a bench build of a car that I thought of. Ok so the basis of this car would be if you had the run of the Buick parts room in about 1962 to build a car. If you knew someone in engineering you may be able to pick something from a couple of years newer. I would want to build something like a GS before muscle cars were being built. I would start with a 60-62 Skylark or Special (not sure what the difference is between the two). Put a 401 or 425 dual quad with a Borg Warner t-10 and a posi in it and have some kind of hood scoop, maybe stage 2 scoop since the tempest with the 421 was running that. The wheels would be dog dish hubcaps and pie crust slicks for the track. Inside would be bucket seats and a rubber floor mat.

So has anyone ever stuffed a 401 or 425 in a 60-62 skylark.

That car wasent built for what your trying to do. Switch up your plan. The weight of the engine will make it a bunk ride. That's a unit body car your best bet would to use
A 64 lark or a 62 lesabre. I came across your same Dream and nightmare and sold my 62s. Dont do it is my advice. If you want to go fast but in a sbb350.

You would have to re do EVERYTHING. PM me if you still want to move forward or call me so I can tell u all I know.

So to that point they put a 421sd in a 62 tempest what did they have to do or what was different about that.

Also I would build a wild stroker 215 before I would go 350.

Impossible to start with a 60 Skylark, the compacts came out in 61, if style matters, the 61 Skylark was a 2 door sedan and the 62's came out with the hardtop on the Skylarks. Specials remained sedans in the 2 doors

Well as pointed out I don't since they didn't make them in 60.

I have not owned one yet so I'm not sure how it it built, is it Camaro like with a subframe or mustang like where it is all sheet metal.

Yeah bro they dont have a frame. I did alot of research on them and spoke on the phone with alot people about them and even one guy who dropped 80k on a f85 and he still had to spend more, he told me to run and I did that why I bought my 65.
Popular thing to do is get a built up mustang or nova II front suspension because the GM one will only accept a 215 and 350. Plus they are small. If u want more info PM me your #. I'm on the move.

Look at how the frame rails and floor pans are built, they are totally different between the Olds& Buick version and the Pontiacs. Not very many parts are interchangeable.

I know a guy in CT. that installed a "Nail" in I believe a '62. I think the car is in Arizona now.
Have no particulars on it other than it was done LONG ago.
