Ok, So if 59-64 Pontiac and Oldsmobile are interchangeable and 61-64 Buick are interchangeable with the 59-67 Poncho/Olds and 61-64 Buick third members will swap into 59 Buick rear ends, does that mean that any 59-64 Pontiac or Olds third member will swap into a 59 Buick rear end? Does that make any sense Talking third members: '59-'64 Poncho = 59-64 Olds '59-'64 Poncho/Olds = 61-64 Buick '61-'64 Buick will swap with '59 although '59 is closed drive line So, can I use a 59-64 Pontiac/Oldsmobile third member on my '59 Buick to convert it to an open driveline? If so, can you use a Dynaflow WITH an open driveline? I'm not positive on the Buick third members being the same as the Pontiac and Olds but I think that's what I read. Just curious, still thinking about putting a 4 speed in my Buick. That info might come in handy later on. I have a few spare Pontiac third members and one is a 3.23. I thought that would be a nice swap for my Buick.
57-63 pontiac and olds are interchangeable.... Buick is all by it self unfortunely. Totally different beast. It is actually larger than the pontiac and olds center section and the bolt pattern for the pig are different and everything. 61-64 Not certain older than that...I will have to investigate. I have a 1950 center section for cheiftian rear. Jim
BOP without the B. Pontiac and Olds 57 to 64 will interchange. Im not sure about the older ones. Bob H.
Ok, so 59-64 pontiac will not interchange with any of the same year pontiacs? That's what I needed to know. I guess that means the ring gears are different also? I do know that 61-63??? Buick third members will swap with 59 third members to convert to an open drive I know Pontiac/Olds interchange back to 57 but the 57 and 58s were 29 spline.
