I am needing the downdraft tube for a 1958 Buick Nailhead. Mine was never there. Look forward to any help on tracking one down and purchasing it. Cheers. Michael.
Dear Tom: Thanks for the heads up. I think they are the same, but not sure. Look forward to the snow melting. Cheers. Michael.
they sell a pcv that goes in place of it if you rather go that route. i would if i was you. however i have one off a 62 somewheres if you want. will be next week before i can try and find it.
I'm so sorry Michael, it totally slipped my mind. I should have done this months ago. I will look in the am & get back to you tomorrow. Tom T.
The downdraft tube is N/G Michael, as in rusted through in spots so I can't help you. The suggestion of a PCV valve is a good one in this case. I myself prefer a PCV over a draft tube. Helps to keep the engine compartment & surrounding areas cleaner also as there are little or no oil fumes/film being let out into the open. Tom T.
Dear Tom: That is a good suggestion. Where would I find such a thing? Does it need an adapter? Cheers. Michael.
How about using the other half of a pcv system, since the airflow from a pcv may disturb the idle of the carb. By using the air cleaner (with mini pad inside), hose outside, and stuff hose into the downdraft hole. Airflow to the air cleaner will not bother the carb at all. Most air cleaners used hose entry outside the filter diameter, but some inside with no mini pad like the open element style. When the engine is running, the slightest air flow would take in all the blow-by. Don't forget to have an intake air breather using an air flow oil cap or breather cap so you have air in and air out.
