For the 1956 Special, are the exhaust manifolds on the factory dual exhaust cars the same as on the cars without dual exhaust? Also, besides the obvious dual exhaust pipes running down the length of the car, the exhaust tips, and the bumper with the exhaust cutouts, are there any other differences between the factory dual exhaust cars and the cars with single exhaust?

    Sean,
The left exhaust manifold( driver's side) is called a double "Y" manifold that exits at the rear of the engine rather than between 1 and 3 cyls. I think everything else is the same except it sounds better!!!!!

The factory dual exhaust cars were also 4 barrel cars like the Century, Super and the roadmaster. 255 horsepower and 9&1/2 compression. Gib at Buick world in Seattle has one left manifold for the dual exhaust car left. His number is 360-825-3787. The early nailheads also had round ports and the later ones had square ports, so make sure you get the round ports or they won't seal. Good luck, Bill

I believe that duals were an option also for Specials with a two barrel carb too. Mine has them and I have seen others too I think.
Never knew about the square/round thing, mine look round so it's good to learn one more thing to watch out for.
On mine the passenger manifold (with heat riser) the outlet is between the 3 and 5 ports and the driver's side outlet is at the rear and downward.
Have this pic of the passenger side (if it shows up)

looks great rogbo! nice job on the engine. I'm redoing my century right now, but I don't think I'm going to go with the green on the engine, I think I am going to go red!! The outside of the car is red / white Repaint the outside next winter.

Thanks, but can't take any credit, was that way when I got it.
Wish it was a Century though, that was what I was looking for.
Couldn't find one and ran across this Special, liked the color so got it.
Said, "close enough". Had a 56 Century that I loved back in 64 while in school, dual class packs, white top over baby blue. Ran low on $$$ and had to sell. Only had a chance to ruin one Dynaflow while I had it! I loved low gear, it didn't.
I like the buick green engine, but agree red would look neat with a red and white car.

Thanks for the info and the lead on the exhaust manifold. I noticed on ebay today that someone who is about 25 miles from me is making reproduction 1956 stainless steel exhaust tips.

I did a search and couldn't find these tips.
Can you give me a link or info on price, etc.?
    I need some better ones.

Sean, Thanks, I guess I have seen those before.:eek2:
I guess mine aren't so bad after all!
Only paid $200 for my whole dual exhaust installed.
Ain't gonna pay $500 for a couple of tips.

Yes, the price is very steep. But I've seen original exhaust tips go for $300-$400 each. I have a friend who paid $900 for some stainless steel tips for his '07 F150 King Ranch. I thought that was insane. It starts to make the $500 look better though.
