As the owner of a nice race and repair business, I had something come in Friday that I am not familiar with. It is a 1954 Buick coupe. Can somebody tell me what model this car would be. I know it is a nailhead. Is it a 264,332, or 364 cu. in.? I know it is not a 401 or 425. Can anybody tell me what carb. came on this car from the factory and where to get a parts-rebuild kit? This car was driven annually until 1995. It is in excellent condition even though stored 12 years. It was stored inside and covered. The owner wants me to get it running and I want to drive it.
The Special should have a 264 in it with a two barrel carb, the others should have a 322 usually with a four barrel. The starter switch is on the carburator and is actuated when the car is in park or neutral and the gas pedal is pushed all the way to the floor.
hi,i've never put anything on here before but i joined this site because i like buicks.i have a 57 and a 63.the buick v8 was used in the 53 super, roadmaster and the skylark. buford owner
If the car is a Special the engine will be the 264. Century , Super and Roadmaster had the 322 cu in. The 264 has a bore of 3.65 and a stroke of 3.2 giving between 143 & 150 HP ( depending on transmission ) The larger 322 has a bore of 4 and a stroke of 3.2 and gave out 177- 200 HP ( depending on transmission and model of body ) Ken.
'53 was the first year for the v8, 264 ci., or 322 ci. According to info in Standard Catalog of Buick, in '54 the engine and carbs were: 264 ci. - Special, Stromberg AAVB267, or Carter 2081, or 2187 2bbl. 322 ci. - Century, Super, Roadmaster, Skylark, Stromberg 4AUV267, or Carter 2082S 4 bbl. Stromberg AAVB267, or Carter 2081, or 2179 2bbl. Hope this helps !
Ahhh....then '53 must have been the last year for the straight 8 or is it '52? And I didn't think they even had 4 barrel carbs way back then! :eek2:
