I just purchased a 1954 Buick Special 2 door hardtop. I know very little about this model, including what size the motor is. I'm looking for history on this model and parts info. I need very few parts for this car, but don't know where to start. It's a v8 that I believe is a 264, maybe. This car is in good condition and i hope to have it a long time.
HI, My name is Joe, I own a '55 Special 2dr. The Specials of these years came with a 264" two barrel motor. Buci never offered the 264" with a four barrel set up as that was for the 322" motors. Fortunately, the external dimensions of these motors are the same as are the camshafts. THis will allow you to use any aftermarket intake, header flanges, valve covers or camshaft thatfits the 322. with a few small mods (such as a 4 barrel intake/carb) that little 264 will run very well. 54 specials Nice car those 54's. The Specials came with the 264 V8 with a bore and stroke of 3.65 X 3.2. If it has the auto trans it was rated at 143 horses with a reported compression ratio of 7.2:1. If it has the stick it was rated at 150 hp with a reported compression ratio of 8:1. Both rated at 4200 RPM. The 2 door sedan, with a post, Model 48-D weighed in at 3,690 pounds cost $2,207 and they produced 41,557 of them. The 2 door coupe model 46-R, no post, cost $2,305 weighed 3,740 pounds and they made 71,186 of these. The 46-R had several conveniences as standard equipment such as a cigarette lighter, directionals,key light, bumper guards, trip odometer, map light, armrests, and twin sunshades.
