I really like the 16" torque thrust D's and 245/50/16 combo on my 71 GS but dang it, I love the 15 deep style rallyes and poly-glas look! I know the 15" wheels varied throughout the years but I want a nice (as in perfect) set of the widest/deepst looking correct wheels for my GS. What do you GSX guys use? Also, where is the best place to get Goodyear G60-15's? Pictures and advice welcome! I will need correct center caps too. I plan on having 2 full sets of rims and tires for the GS to swap back and forth.
Derek Phil Sedlon(70 gsconvt) had a set made for his 70 vert that were made by Stockton Wheel.I believe they are 15x10 with 5 5/8 backspacing.I can't be positive but I believe he is also running something like a 325/50-15 tire. He has put airbags in it and had to trim the chrome wheelwell lip to make it clear inside. You would be better off pm' ing him or do a search for exact measurements and such.I had Stockton widen my 15x7 to 15x14 and they did a wonderful job.The pics were lost in the shuffle when this site was hacked.Phil also lives in Ohio so maybe you can hook up and just go see his. Pat
Phil, thanks for the info, but I should have been more clear. I do not want wider than factory wheels at this point, just the widest factory correct wheel that I can get. I think the offset varies quite a bit though. The final combo would prob have the G60-15 tire.
Hi Derek, I'm going to chime in here with my two cents worth and state that to my knowledge all 15"X7" Buick ralley wheels have the same backspacing. The only ones that may be different are the WG coded wheels from 1970 which have a wider lip on the front side of the wheel, but they are still 15"X7". As for the tires, you may want to contact Glen Stringfield(Gstring on the board). I believe he did a group purchase of the Goodyear G60-15's for several club members. Hope that helps, Larry
Thanks Larry. I GOT to stop by sometime. Did you get down to see the Holiday Lights thing downtown? I was there in my clown suit...
The backspacing is 4 3/8" as measured on a spare wheel that I have. Derek, Didn't make it to the see the Holiday Lights show but have driven thru town and noticed that all of the businesses in the old part of town are decorated. Looked nice! Sorry I missed you in the clown suit!!!! Larry
You can contact Glen Stringfield on this board (g-string). He has a correct set of 15" WG wheels on his GSX. Otherwise, for 15x8's you need 4.5" backspacing, and for 15x10's, 5.5" to 5.75", depending on your car.
Derek, If you are looking for nice, try this: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=61407. If you are looking for driver quality, try Edison's on McKinley Ave. Every now and then they have some for $20-$25. Also, I believe the WG wheels have the same backspacing as any 15X7 wheel. If you want to look at a WG wheel, stop by. My GSX has the original WG wheels, including the spare. Hope this helps, Larry
