14x6 Rally's, simple tires?

Discussion in 'Wet behind the ears??' started by NoodlesKnowles, May 16, 2017.

  1. Ok so I have a 66 GS, with the 14x6 rally rims, which cleaned up much better than I thought(pic provided).

With all the tires available out there I'm pretty lost on size.

I am learning as I go here, the car was given to me and I'm working on it on the weekends learning as I go.

Currently the car has 205/75 14's on it but I'm fairly certain they are pretty well rotted, And I don't really like the whitewalls even if I could get them clean and they were safe.

This will be a weekend cruiser, not a racecar, and I don't want to put redlines on it until I have it fully restored, which may be some time.

I'm looking at just getting some cooper cobra white letters? What would be a good size for this rim? Please please specifics and/or links are welcome.

225/70/14 is about the right height and is slightly bulgy or chunky (that's a good thing). Coopers and BFGs are about all that are left for 14s with any sportiness.

I think 225s are too wide for a 6" rim. Back in my tyre industry days we'd suggest a 205 for a 6" inch rim.

I put 225/70 14 BFG on my '64 Skylark. 14 x 6 Rally rims. Looks and fits great. Discount Tire has a chart to check max rim and tire size combos. They show rim width 6.0 to 8.0.

I also think the 225/70/14 is too big - I'd recommend the 215/70/14.

If you prefer "bigger is better" than the 225/70/14 will still work fine.

I can only tell you from my experience on 70-72 Buicks that without question 225/70/14 Looks Great and fits on the 14" rims very very nicely. I have bought them and run them so this is not hypothetical.

In this chart you will see that the rim size says a 225/70/15 will work on a 6" wide wheel. I used this to figure out the difference from what I believe is the factory size tire for a 70 GS of 245/60/15.

Opps "In this chart you will see that the rim size says a 225/70/15" I meant to say 225/70/14

  15. Ugh, I hate mail in rebates. Seems like IF you ever get it it's 6 months down the road and you are like "what did I get this for?" lol
