The rear end was rebuilt with all new bearings and seals about 2000 miles ago. Its a 66 12 bolt and has worked great. It has the additive but only sometimes (mainly after driving straight for a long time) it makes a HARD clunking noise as if the rearend is binding.

It doesnt take much of a turn to get it do it(much less than a hard right or left turn) but will on a soft turn???

Is it that I need more posi additive or is it something more?? It sounds like the rear end is going to snap or drop an axle?

    Thank you for any input.

I had the same issue years ago with my 75 Electra with a 9 3/8ths posi. A few of the clutches in the carrier cracked, causing the right and left axles to lock/bind after getting hot and driving straight on the highway for awhile. VERY SPOOKY handling on the highway when there was the SLIGHTEST curve in the road while towing my 24 foot Sea Ray boat:shock: Then getting off the highway and turning right or left it was BANG BANG BANG from the rear. Check your clutches in the carrier.

The rebuild... Was a new posi unit installed? Was the unit disassembled and reshimmed? Jim

Jim, it is not a new posi but the orginal. All bearings replaced in the rear but the posi was not taken apart. Its weird as it doesnt do it all the time just every once in a while after driving at speed for a while?
