I put the 12 bolt Chevy that was out of a 1969 Canadian made Buick together today. The gear is a new 3.42 US Gear from DTS. The Pinion shim is a .037. The Back Lash is seting @ .0095 Here's a few pics of the coast and drive side..any thoughts. Pics of coast side: Drive side:
The lower pictures are pretty good after you got oil on the gear to move the compound better. looks like a keeper. Might want to check .035 also as after seeing the lower pattern seems to be getting pretty deep in the valley and once you hit it with 3500 pounds of car weight it could get sharper and deeper. Put the .035 Pinion Shim in. My dial gauge is acting up but I was able to work with it enough to get a somewhat accurate reading. The Back Lash is somewhere between .010 and .011. Closer to .010 I believe. The DTS instructions said the Back Lash should be between .008 and .012 so that's good. The coast side was tuff to get pics of but here they are: Coast Side: Drive Side:
ASSEMBLE AND RUN IT. yOUR DONE. just BE SURE to double check ALL backlash and pattern to make certain NOTHING has changed. Jim
Got the 12 bolt ready to go..just have install rear cover and put in fluid. These are the final results with the crush sleeve installed and crushed and new front and rear bearings with .035 pinion shim. The pinion preload is about 27-28 in lbs continuous turning. The BL is exactly .010. Pics: Coast side: Drive Side:
