I have a 69 GS with a 12 Bolt open rear. Is it possible to convert this to a posi/non-slip diff. using a Detriot Trutrac posi carrier? Any way of determining the number of splines without opening up the rear? H.

Ye syou can swap out the open unit for ANY posi carrier true trac eaton clutch type or Auburn cone type. YOU will however need to know the ratio you have. IF you have a 2.56 or 2.73 those two ratios require a 2 series FACTORY unit to make your rear posi The only aftermarket posi type unit that will make the 2.56 or the 2.73 gears work is the POWER TRAX Lock right unit or the NO SLIP power trax unit. IF you have 3.08 3.31 3.42 3.73 3.55 3.90 4.10 4.30 4.56 4.88 and beyond...You only need to get the correct 3 or 4 series carrier for your ratio. Axles spline count - ALL 12 bolt CHEVY c-clip axle rears are 30 spline from the factory. !2 bolt Olds with factory BOLT IN AXLES are 28 and 31 spline. PLEASE be certain which rear you have as BOTH have 12 bolt covers but are totally different inside. Jim J D
