Ok, Just got a 12 bolt non posi for my Buick. The rear end needs a complete rebuild and I am going to change the gears too. Questions, 1. which is the strongest aftermarket differential unit to put in? (Eaton, Auburn, Etc.) I have heard the true Detroit Locker is the strongest.. 2. are the full kits like the link below a good deal or is it cheaper to buy the parts seperate? http://www.rearendparts.com/product.php?productid=1408 3. what is a good book on the market that covers rebuilding and setting up the 12 bolt? Thanks for your help.
eaton is one of the better ones i wouldnt use the auburn -not rebuildable as it wears, eaton is and you can get heavyer springs for the eaton
Eaton or yukon gear. for the differential. if your looking to get one built talk to monaz on this board. he set up my 12 bolt nice. also he'll help get yours setup if you buy parts from him. -nate
We just put the Eaton in my 12 bolt in a 70 GS and I bought the installation kit. I bought it out of convienence. We used everything in it. Got it all at Summit.
So it sounds like the Eaton. Anyone know anything about the Detroits? Also, Any sugestions on a gear. Thinking of 4:11's The car wont see any highway time but will be a very mild 350 (for now). I think if I go for the 4:11's now I wont have to upgrade later. What do ya think?
Eaton is the way to go . Much stronger and rebuildable where as the Auburn relys on cones to to lock the drive wheels together and the cones wear and not rebuildable . I have 4.10 gears in my car and reall like them . when I up grade to 455 will be too much gear but will wait till the 4.10s break to change out to 3.73
Wow, Thats pretty fast for a 350. What pistons, compression, cam, intake, carb, are you running. Are you running Nitrous?
No real trick parts , just a lot of lightening in crank and rods and polishing , flat top pistons , a lot of head work and intake work and forever on tuning to get the combo to work .
