I got quoted on a rebuild for my 65 300 at 1100 dollars. This included all new internals and I want to throw in a cam from postons also. The guy I talked to said this covers everything from the oil pan to the valve covers and it is warrantied. This has been a real slow moving project and I want to put this car back on the road. Thanks in advance.

Can you say exactly what level of machine work they'll do? I have a feeling that for $1100 you won't be getting the nice stuff (like having each bore honed to match its piston, balancing, etc.).

The more details you can get from them the better.

I find it a little hard to believe he would do it for that as it cost me right at that do do mine with a poston cam but I did all the disassembly and reassembly myself.Mine was bored over so everything in it including the machine work is new.If he will do a thorough proffesional job for that it is a good price...........I am guessing for that price he is maybe just doing a rering job and not a total rebuild as I did for around 1200.00 last winter.Do as the other fella suggested and let us know what he is doing exactly for the 1100.00 as it sounds cheap for a complete rebuild. I agree with the above fellows. It sounds like too little money for a quality job. Here are some costs for various aspects of a rebuild in S. Oregon:
Dipping and cleaning block and heads 80.00
    Bore and cylinder hone 110
    Resizing rods 120
Labor and machine for basic valve job 90
Head surfacing for the pair 85
    Regrind crankshaft 100
New rod and main bearings 130
    New timing chain set 35
    New pistons 220
    New rings 75
    Oil pump rebuild kit 30
    Gasket set 75
    New lifters 70
    New cam 150
    Total 1370

Then consider what isnt included: balancing, installation of exhaust seats, replacement of worn valves, bad rockers and or assembly, line hone of mains, cam bearings, damper or distributor work, valve springs, pushrods. Also the above list does not include any labor for dissassembly or reassembly.

Be careful. A motor builder took me to the cleaners in the early 90's, and I ended up with a motor that was lucky to run, even though the checking account was $2400 leaner. Now I oversee each part of the rebuild, specifying exactly what I want, and then verify as far as possible. Parts are purchased personnally, and I also do the teardown/reassembly.
