Hello all, I'm new to the site and was wondering if I could tap the knowledge of anybody with buick rearend code info.

I have an 8.2" buick rear. It was an "open" 3.23 and I just put a posi in it. My issue is, I'm trying to find axle seals, bearings, and wheel cylinders for it and I have no idea what it came from. It is not in the original vehicle. I found a code on the bottom of the left tube the says "LC" and next to that is "D039"

On the front left bottom of the pumpkin is "5689" and on the front right bottom of the pumpkin is "CFD3"

The wheel cylinder says Delco Moraine 5467190 1" on it.

The bearing is a dual sealed roller bearing with RW507C on it

Can anyone tell me what this may be out of and know of current part numbers for the bearings, seals, or wheel cylinders??

Sorry for the long post, but wanted to give all the info I had.

    Thanks a million,
    Rob

    Rob,
I just looked in my 70 Buick Chassis manual, and they have LC as an open 3.23 rear. Not sure if the D039 confirms the rear is in fact a 1970 8.2 You say you put a posi in it. Did you find a used posi? The 68-70 Buick 8.2 has no aftermarket support. I just recently removed my 70 8.2 rear (OO 3.42) and replaced it with a built 71 8.5 with 3.73's) I transferred the backing plates and brakes to the new rear. The wheel cylinders, axle bearings and seals looked the same to me between both axles. I used A9 bearings, and 712146 seals.

    Larry,

I bought a used posi that came out of a buick skylark. It torq tested really good. So D039 is for 1970? Are your wheel cylinders right and left specific and 1" bore?? I just found replacement bearings and collars. I am still trying to figure out seals.

One dumb question for you. Does the seal go inboard of the roller bearing or does the seal sit right inside the tube?? I ask becuase I did not tear the seals out of it, and when I got it back (i was impatient) from the builder there weren't seals in it. It seems to me that the seal would sit right inside of the edge of the tube and the bearing sits on the next ridge inside of that. It has 2.5" shoes too. Not sure if that is standard or not.

So what p/n's are those? Mfgs or parts place?

    Thanks Larry

I am NOT SURE that D039 means 70. Maybe someone else can confirm that. My wheel cylinders are 7/8" bore. Wheel cylinders are the same left, right in the rear. The seal goes out board of the bearing right behind the plates that bolt to the axle housing ends. As far as I know, it should be a Timken 712146

68/69 has 2" rear shoes, not sure if 70 changed to 2.5"?

NAPA shows 2.5" rear shoes for a 70 GS.

Most all wagons had 2 1/2 shoes as well most all 2 & 4 drs had 2" shoes

I guess I'm leaning to it being out of a wagon then. The brake shoes on it are 2.5" and the wheel cylinders are definitely 1" bore. Now the question is whether it is a 69 or 70, and what wagon it came from. I spent 45mins at my local O'reilly's and looked at 68-70 nearly all Buicks and could not find a wheel cylinder that matched.

Does it matter if I don't use a left/right specific wheel cylinder??

thanks everyone thus far for the help.
