1" carb spacer, TA stage 1 intake, and a GS hood/air cleaner... will it fit?

When adding that 1 inch spacer, does the GS air cleaner still fit?

    72 Skylark 350.

if you do it you will find out. but if you get the proper parts for gs air cleaner you will find a front support bracket the bolts to thermostat housing. that bracket will be no help to you with a carb spacer and air cleaner will be very tight to hood, could put a lot of pressure on carb where air cleaner stud goes. once carb is warped carb will be no good.
not to mention the power range of the gs air cleaner will affect performance gains of the spacer.

I have an open element right now without the spacer. I would make my own support bracket or modify one. How will a GS air cleaner affect the spacer performance? ALso would it be bacause it flows more, or becaase it woudl be colder air?

    Thanks

The ram air cleaner relays on the speed of air running across the hood of car to force air into engine but is ineffective after 35mph due to design .it was more about looks .like racing stripes. the k&n cold air kits are more effective that's why you see people racing with a headlight removed .

And cost. Unless you're lucky is 1000 for a hood and 350 for an air cleaner

So it wont really affect the spacer performance if my other optio was anopenair cleaner or stock skylark aircleaner and spacer...

My real questionis will it fit, has anyone done this?

Take a 1" block of wood, put it on top of your air cleaner, and close the hood.

I don't have holes cut in my glass hood yet. Was hoping someone has done a 1" spacer with factory style ram air, and a TA intake.
Hoping just cutting the foam down a bit is all that's needed.

Well, if you don't mind waiting for some who has done this to see your request, I guess wait. I would just measure the clearance you have now between the hood and top of the air cleaner.

Use a 1 inch bead of plumbers putty around the air cleaner and see what hits. Put wax paper on the air cleaner and on top of the putty so it does not stick to the parts.

I was thinking it would be more the air scoop area that would be an issue, since those peices hang down from the hood..?

No, the first place it will hit when you close the hood is the rear of the air cleaner. Think about it.

1" spacer, Holley, TA intake, stock GS ram air cleaner fits well. I run orig Corvette 427 drop base cleaner,TA intake, 2" spacer, 3" open element and it fits very well. GS hood closes fine. Can even "carefully" run a 4" open element too. 3" is safer though!

Thanks for that data, that gives alot fo hope. I think a Holley or Edelbrock is about the same height as a Qjet?
3.25 inches from bottom to base of air cleaner?

Yep. Seems close to 3.250. The foam seals will get compressed slightly more than with no spacer. I may have left the support bracket off also, to minimize that. Been awhile since I ran that combo.

Will the type of choke matter at all?

I have no idea if big blks will clear any differently than a 350. Fiberglass hood might be different too. Put modeling clay or crunch up aluminum foil loosely and close your hood. You will see exactly what's happening and how much clearance you have.
