Just wondering if someone could help me out here. I'm trying to get an idea of what sort of rpm I'd be turning in the 1/4. Played around with one of the TCI calculators, but wasn't having much luck.
I'm running a 3:31 gear with a 27" tall tire. I didn't know what to plug in for converter slip, 10%...15% :Do No: It's a Coan, if that helps. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim

cray1801 Too much is just right.

Jim, by my rough calculations you should turn close to 4840 rpm's @ 109 mph and 4660 @ 105.

Thanks Craig. Does hp come into play here? If those numbers are anywhere close then I'm going to need at least 3:73's. The motor dosen't start making serious power til around 4800 rpm. Was hoping to be in the 5500 range going through the traps.

I'd play around with what you have first. 455's don't need much gear to run good at the track. Tell us more about your combination.

Welp, the suspension is stock. 464/TH350 with manual V/B. Coan 4200 stall. The rear is stock as well, 12 bolt with the 3:31's. Just got the motor in late last summer. Dynoed at 600 hp, running the 290-08HL. Want to upgrade rear suspension, but I'm tempted to just leave it stock.....dosen't even have boxed lower arms. Crappy "Joe's' shocks. Probably bust up the axles first.

Oh, I see you got the power! I'd say your are pushing the limit on that TH-350, drive shaft and axle's (nice converter however). Are you running slicks :(

If you trap at 115 you should be around 5200 rpm's. Just adding another data point on the curve.

I've probably only got 475 HP at 3950 lbs (that is until late summer).

TH350 is built strong, spragg and drum. I'll fix the driveshaft before it spits that out. Running the Hoosier QT's 11.5's. We shall play n we shall see.

Kelly Eber I'd rather be racing

My 72 Skylark with a TH350, a coan 9" converter, 3.42 gear, and 28" tall slicks went 122 MPH @ 5400-5500 RPM in the traps.

Thanks Kelly! That is exactly what I was looking for. 5400-5500 is the rpm range I'd like it to be in. So if I'm running a 27" tall tire with a 3:31, it should turn close to the same as yours. Still a little low, but a good starting point. The Coan I'm running is a 10" they told me it should stall around 4000-4200. Where does your 9" stall Kelly? Looks to be coming out of the gate pretty strong in the avatar. Jim
