I'm needing help on choosing the best way to attach 1/2 braided fuel line to my stock 72 Skylark fuel tank and placement of a Mallory 140 electric fuel pump. Thanks

I'm using a Mallory 140 pump, but it's with a fuel cell. If you were going to use the stock tank without a sump, I would weld a bung at the bottom of the tank where gravity would force the fuel down into the pump. The Mallory pump doesn't like to pull so you need the fuel to be gravity driven. One thing you didn't mention was the fuel filter, which needs to be in between the pump and the tank. I'll get pictures of my filter and pump for you to give you an idea to place it. Even both being mounted with a fuel cell, it should still clear the tank where it's mounted.

Welding in a bung or drop sump is the best solution. Just be carefull where you put it. Too far to the back and the car will kill when hit the brakes at the end of the track. You'll have to have at least 1/3 tank or more. Been there, done that!:error:

How do you determine how far back is correct. I've seen weld in sumps in Jegs and Summit. What is the proper positioning for a sump? This is all new to me.

It wouldn't be a problem for me to run a 3/8" line, but I want the extra in case I add a power adder. I'm looking into an ATI procharger down the road and I don't want to chance starving the engine. Plus, we got an extra 2 cylinders to feed :)

Another alternative is the billet mechanical pump from JW. I have it on my 500hp motor and I think it will handle an 800 horse motor without an electric pump. I am using the stock 3/8's line and JW said it will be just fine for street/ strip duty. Saves the hassles of an installation like yours. It's not cheap (400 dollars or so), but well worth it to me! If you go that route, make sure you properly set the clearance for the pump arm. Brian :)
