I've never replaced the thermostat in my 88 S-10 with a 92 Vortec engine. My 86 Cutlass and my 94 Bonneville probably haven't been replace in 20+ years. I replaced the thermostat in my 94 Caprice wagon in 2007 when I purchased the car with a GM thermostat. It fails every two years. Luckily, it has always failed open.

I went thru 3 thermostats that would swing 230-165 . finally bought a premium label one (made in Israel) and it works great.
