As many of you know, I've been searching for a '60 Cadillac, especially since I now have an empty parking spot. Well, quite a few months ago I saw a '60 Coupe Deville advertised down in Florida, but at the time I still owned my Riviera and it was waaaay out of my budget at that point, and that whole room for another car thing.... So I've been searching every day, and lo and behold on Tuesday, that same Caddy reappeared with a slightly lower price, to boot. Gave the really nice, older lady owner a call. Car sounded very promising, and she was VERY knowledgeable about her Caddies. Her baby is a '59, and they've owned a lot of varied classics. The '60 was owned by a friend of theirs who started the restoration on it, but then fell ill, so they bought it off him and finished things up. Has lots of new, but lots of original mixed in. She told me all the little things that were wrong that she knew about, because she said she didn't want anyone from this far away to be disappointed when their new car showed up, which I really appreciated. Soooooo, I sent a little PM to my good buddy John (Waterboy) to see if he'd be willing to roll on over at his convenience and check the car out for me. John being the great guy he is, of course he was good to go! He went over the very next day, which was about 2.5 hours each direction. Helluva guy! It was funny, as when I called him on the phone for the first time, I said "John, you sound exactly like I thought you would!" You know how when you see a person's picture, you can hear in your head how they sound? Well, that's John. I've seen pics on the forums, and he's just as funny and upbeat as I thought he'd be, especially after the Penguin thread (come to think of it, sorry I didn't do this earlier, John. You could've had a temporary reprieve for a day). John asked me about my accent, which I cannot hear, but he figured I was from Wisconsin or Fargo or the like. I told him I'm from up by Canada, so that must be it hahahaha...... Anyway, John showed up, inspected and drove the car for me. He reported back the car drives as new and took some great pics, and gave me a great description of everything about it. The couple that own the car had him give me a call while they were sitting there together, which was odd, but John handled it like a pro. We talked a bit, then once he left their presence, he got a hold of me again and we talked in private. I'll tell you what, John is the reason I am buying this car. His inspection was thorough, and I feel like I know exactly what is going to show up on my doorstep in a few weeks. The owner even gave me a call after John left and told me how great he was, so far as to say "We've had a lot of appraisers come and look at our cars over the years, and your friend John blows them all away. He knew more about the car, found things we didn't know about, and was just a great guy to deal with. He should really take up car appraisal as a side job." Seriously. So kudos to Mr. Waterboy, he even impresses people who's cars he's picking apart . So, now I'm just working out the shipping to get the car up here. I was going to fly down and drive it back, but with the weather being in and out with end of Winter/beginning of Spring right now, I can't muster the stones to drive my new precious toy with the potential of it getting driven in the snow or even rain. So it'll be like waiting for Christmas morning for a while until it shows up! Once again, just wanted to give a great big THANKS and shout out to John, and a big thanks to everybody that has sent me leads and links to cars they've found for me along the way. My search is over.
Hahaha....the CL ad pics aren't anything worth sharing. Unless John has some good clean glamour shots he wants to post, I'll show and tell when the car gets here....
Ahhhhhh yeah congrats buddy Time to extend that garage door or cut out the wall that's towards the inside of the house
Wow Lucas! What a beautiful car! And kudos to John for helping out a Buick (Caddy) brother. I did the same type purchase on my '71, bought it without personally putting my hands on it. Trusted the owner and some people on here who had seen it previously. Had it shipped cross country and it was better than Christmas when it arrived. I hope you have the same result.
Congratulations Lucas, sharp ride! Looks like it's in very nice shape and was well kept. Good luck with her and enjoy! I was drooling over this '59 this past weekend at the World of Wheels show. I must've stared at this car for 20 minutes. Like i'm sure you will when yours arrives. Just stunning............ Mostly stared at this.....
