Tried the search function & came up empty handed. I looked thru my shop manual with no luck either. Can anyone share a pic on the correct orientation of the oil slinger when installed over crank snot before replacing the timing chain cover? My engine builder decided to go ole school & used the rope style oil seal WITHOUT replacing the oil slinger. So yea…I’ve only got 700 miles clocked on my build & it started leaking…ugh Thx in advance
As far as I remember it can only go one way - keyed with the crank and the belled side facing the seal. It's not so much a slinger as a shield designed to keep oil away from the seal, so that would be why you've got the leak. Looked for pics to show you but couldnt find them..
right, if you put it on the wrong way you will be able to tell cause it will hit the timing chain when you push it all the way back towards the chain.
Here are some before and afters of a chain and gear swap showing it. Concur on the keyed, bellows out.
Thx for the info & pix guys. I do have a neoprene seal to replace the the rope. But it just blows me away that shops take shortcuts like leaving out my oil slinger. I paid a ton of money for this rebuild. I was gonna revive an old thread of mine to talk about all the issues I’ve had with this rebuild.
