Anyone else have a 71 GS with the standard (Arrow pattern) front bench interior that has an armrest? My car does, but it says that was not an option. If you do can you post a pic? Thanks
I'm going out on a limb but it wasn't an "option" because it was the standard, base model interior. Options would be anything above and beyond standard equipment.
I’m trying to see if anyone else has the arrow pattern or standard interior with an armrest. That’s what my car has but when I tried to get new Upolstery the brochures say an armrest bench was not available in the standard arrow pattern. It says armrest was only available with the deluxe interior. The deluxe interior is cool but I want to put it back as it was. Dad bought it I got it from him drove it since high school. I’m 54 and finally restoring it to drive again.
So if I understand you are saying you have this style of seat cover: But with the arm rest? I have never seen that... All the repros do appear to be the Deluxe style. Might be a custom situation. It's super interesting that came from the factory. I wonder if the Skylark had that style too...
That’s exactly it, I loved the arrow as a kid and the armrest put my hand on the “column”shifter handle in a perfect position for those times I needed to pull back to first
I can’t remember ever seeing one of those. I would have to check my notes as to if they were offered by the factory. Who knows, they may have been playing with the idea of offering that interior but decided against it. That doesn’t mean they didn’t build 1 or 2 and then send them on to a dealership for sale. If you look at “John’s 70 Red car interior” it uses the regular sewing design for the deluxe interiors, but the graining for the seat faces and inserts are different then the regular Deluxe interiors. They were checking things out before they decided on what materials they were going to use. They did things like that all the time. Then again, I also did over a bunch of standard interior cars into deluxe ones, but I never remember doing a std front bench with armrest. Although I did do a couple of Standard interior designs for front buckets, so they would match the standard rear seats/door panels. The trim code should give the answer. Duane
One question, Does it have chrome strips up the outside of the front bench seats, or does it have little plastic hinge covers with the clips, covering the outside front bench seat top hinges? Duane
If my memory is right just the plastic at the bottom I don’t remember the chrome on the side of the seat.
06A, not 86A. First week (A) of June (06) 1971. Base interior in Sandlewood (104). No notchback (armrest) seat. Sandlewood vinyl top with Burnished Cinnamon paint. Very attractive combo!
My thinking is inline with Duane's. There were probably some oddities that made it down the production line for various reasons on cars that were not ordered. Engineering trial deemed saleable? Devon
...interesting. Normally, use of different parts on late builds isn't so unusual, but in this case, an entirely different pattern seat back/armrest upholstery was required for Buick Sandalwood trim 104. There was a "Sandalwood Green" (whatever that means) split bench Code 243 for '72. I don't have a '72 brochure, so I don't know what that looks like. Did any other GMAD division use that trim color/pattern with a split bench '71-'72? I can't see any other reason for a split bench front seat in 104 trim, but there it is...
