Why we can't talk politics

We tried the political forum here a few years back... what a nightmare that was. It was called "The Political Pine" and still exists in the database today.. it's just out of view. I have often toyed with the idea of putting a read only version of it back up, if for no other reason to illustrate how bad that gets.. Then I get over that really bad idea..

As I stated before, I did not create this site to put guys at each other's throats.. it's counterproductive to the community.. you want a free for all.. then facebook is your weapon of choice.

I have found that often, the most mild mannered guys to talk to in person, become fire breathing keyboard warriors at times... on political topics especially... so no, our no politics policy will stand.. That being said, if you want to generally discuss your dissatisfaction with our government in general, no biggy.. just use your best discretion to prevent pointing fingers at one side or the other.. tough to do, so it's often best to just stay away from it all together.

This about sums up what our patient moderators have to go through.

I don't have any problem with talking about politics or economic policy. I respect the fact that many of you folks don't see the world the same way as I. I do not understand why we have to get PO'd at each other for having different opinions as to what we believe. My only problem with discussing politics is that there are a significant number of folks who only listen to sources that support their personal beliefs. This is not research. Please, look at all sides of any issue that you are concerned about before you blast someone else's opinions.

I can't understand it either since when we were 18 yrs old we had No opinions on politics. At least I didn't I was too busy looking at the University of Akron girls. Going out and having fun talking about cars and of course The Girls

People put too much into all this then just want to argue about it since you are right and I am wrong
There isn't even a compromise it is Agree To Disagree what the heck is that No middle ground? lolHa.

Former Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker has been attributed with saying "Only a dog knows what good a pole (poll) is for."

In my humble opinion network news began its inexorable descent into half truths and outright lies the day CNN started broadcasting. It was the new kid on the block, the shiny coin on the ground you just had to pick up. They had a completely different attitude and demeanor. Many became quickly hooked, leading to the copycat, agenda pushing channels. Can't recall the last time I watched an entire news broadcast. Probably still had a full head of hair..:D

The late Norm MacDonald has a bit about TV news being just about right at 30 minutes long. He was correct.

I understand your reasons Jim and really either way I’m good with it, and BTW I don’t even touch Politics on FB because it’s so full of Left, crying, accusing mindless crap it’s not even real. In my old age I have gained some wisdom, first and foremost, The World will turn no matter what I think! And let sleeping coyotes sleep….lol

I've unfollowed my friends on facebook who talk politics and just follow the 12 car related groups I'm in. It's sooooo peaceful now!

Funny how things change hey? When I was growing up and just starting to use the internet (sorry to all of you who I just made feel old), I was always told by adults around me to not believe everything I see on the internet. It's definitely interesting in a sad way to see those same adults who helped teach me to think critically fall victim to the misinformation campaigns that are literally everywhere you look online now.

The problem I find when discussing touchy subjects is that people tend to see the world as an extension of themselves. This happened to me, I did X, X was (successful/failure), Therefore next time I am in a situation, I will (not) do X.
Same thing with financing, Personal or even big business finance are completely different than Governmental financials.

Society's act differently that individuals. Trying to run a society based on individual choices is bound to lead to frustration and failure.

Sociology is a very complex subject, and to try to boil it down to how I budget my household, or who you know that is or isn't successful just doesn't work.

I wish you all well, I hope nobody judges you harshly, and may we all find some way to respect each other.
    Peace out.

People look at the space race as something that greatly advanced technology.

But the other side of the coin is - For decades billions of dollars were extracted from the public to be used in the space race. What technologies never became reality because of those resources being diverted and administered by the most inefficient entity known to man?

    I don't have an answer.

How about new technology that resulted from our being in space. I don't know exactly what that was, but I am sure that it exists.

    Just a quick search,
