I am soooo pumped to go to the Nats this year. I hope there will be a pow wow and a panel with DM and yall
Nice Super Bee..!! and the Dart isn't bad! I've read a few times how you can just about 14 flat from a 383 magnum car with no add on's. I don't know if you have this 1970 Hot Rod mag with the Sox and Martin guys testing these Mopars. They tested 6 cars. They got a Cuda 340 to do 14.34 A Cuda 383 to do a 14.26 like I mentioned A Hemi Cuda to do 13.36 A 440+6 Road Runner to do 13.47 A 440 GTX to do a 13.57 like I mentioned A Duster 340 to do a 13.98 To also note, they did 10 runs of each and all were within .25 of each other. Who knows if they just listed the top 10 times?? They were all also geared very nice as all cars either had a 3:91's or 4:10's. These car were also loaded with options which make me think foul. They beat the day lights out of them on the slalom and braking test and said they had zero brake fade and they handled great. Nothing broke and all cars finished the testing?? rhammer, when did you come into loving the Buicks?!? Mods: Please move this if you feel I invaded this thread..
It was always exciting going to the dealership so... I can't remember all the issues and my parents knew zero when it came to cars, but that Dart was always in the shop. Couldn't wait to get rid of it. I figured Chrysler struggled w/ emissions but... My Mom had a '66 Valient slant 6 that was great (was my grandmother's) and IIRC before that a used 66 Impala - I believe was an SS w/a 327. I don't think we had it for long. In the mid '80's I inherited my grandmother's '72 Valient 318 which had replaced the '66 my mom got. Only options were probably a radio, A/C & automatic (had rubber floors) and yes, super reliable (until I wrecked it). I think I have the window sticker for it somewhere.
Just in case anyone wanted to see Tony Branson's car before the 455 4-bolt was installed. Here you are. Enjoy. Duane
Great picture Duane! Does anybody know what happened to this old Racer? Hopefully it's still around? Cragar SS wheels just define the era of sixties muscle cars, they look great on our old Buick Gran Sports in my opinion. Larry.
When I was a little kid in the mid 70's, all the older guys in the neighborhood had them on their late 60's/early 70's A-Bodies although never recall seeing a GS back then, but distinctly remember Chevelles, Olds, Pontiacs. For me they evoke fond childhood memories.
When Tony started running the Mopars he did not want to see the 69 just sit there, so he "loaned" it to a friend. He never saw the car again. How the engine got to the location where Fritz got the block and Cory got the rest of the parts is probably a story in itself, and we may never know all the perameters. Tony did not even have any pics of his car, as I believe he went thru a divorce. It wasn't until years later when Dave Tumas found and sent 2 pics of the car to me. Sadly Tony had passed by then, so I don't know if he ever saw them. People are still looking for the car, and we know what was done to it so we should be able to ID it if found, but............. Duane
I can't wait to finally see the Kenne-Bell racecar in person. Meet the legendary Denny Manner and Meet all my friends here on the board
At the 25th Nats, Buick brought down a bunch of cool stuff including the turbo nail; I was geeking out on it, telling my Pontiac friend about it and the 700+ ft/lbs of torque, and a kind fellow standing nearby chimed in and finished the story. That kind fellow was Denny! Patrick
Honestly @Jim Weise you could use zoom or a similar tool with higher quality video. A 100 dollar web camera and a mic will create very nice video.
Not to steer off Denny but isn’t there another board member that has a documented stage 2 car from 69? greatscat? How would one identify a stage 2 car up grade from new? They were bolt on after market parts correct? And what parts would those be? Cam, heads, carb, distributor? Not block I’m assuming since what Denny sounds like he has was proto type engine and upgrades?
You should here what Doug Jones said about the 69 SLOWPOKE car when he saw it. He had promised (wished) me not to say anything about it.
Okay, has been a GREAT DAY! A couple hours ago I got a call from Mr.Manner & then spoke with Duane. I have been out of the loop here recently focusing fully on previously discussed medical concerns (going VERY well!) but just read this whole thread after Duane told me the thread continued after my early viewing of it. Very cool information here (thanks, Duane,Brad,Mark,Jim,Dave,Cory & of course Denny himself). I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to go to the Nats but when my wife came home from walking Rosie this evening and I was on the phone with Mr. Denny Manner asking me if I would mind being included in the motors history (How COOL is that?!!!) well my wife has had an overdose on Buick history (“ummm hmmm that’s great Honey...yes,really it is” Lol How she endures me I will never know ; ) Been working out today so I am already sore but if I have to crawl through glass I will be at the GS Nats to shake Mr.Manners & many other friends hands there. Duane has the info already but I will share my story here also for those who requested tomorrow. So where is the place to get a room where everyone collects to talk Buick’s at night (place Rosie & I stayed at in 2019 had ONE GS there). Would love to hang out with folks I have never met in person & have a few sodas too without concerns of needing to drive anywhere, just Buick’s allllllllll night! Woo Hoo. Packing your bags too Guy? Please let me know where most are staying. Thanks in advance! Herr Fritzenshiftin out
