So far, I have received three threatening letters from the US Census Bureau telling me all of the horrible things that they can do to me if I don't return the 2020 census forms. Yup, I know that I am required by law to fill out the forms. The problem? They have not sent me any census forms. How about sending the forms, then if I don't return them send the threatening letters? Geez!
I did it online, took me less than 10 minutes. The letter I got contained a 12 character alpha numeric code. I went to my2020census.gov, filled it out, and that was that. From what I understand, if you do not respond online, they send you a paper copy to fill out and return.
Yup like Larry said they want you to do it online. It's really easy and quick. I'm sure for all the old dinosaurs out there who can't or won't do it online, they will eventually get a paper copy to fill out.
Got two of those letters at our seasonal Fla place. Went online, put in my NY address (had no code for it) and did it on line in only a few minutes. Printed out the "receipt" in case they come knockin' on the door. Easy peasy. UticaGeoff
Let them send all the threatening letters they want!. First thing, the date that they are requesting to be acted on is APRIL 01 2020. Last time I looked it was still MARCH. Who knows who will be alive even tomorrow, especially with this corona virus? See attached...... (Direct from the online website.) Count Everyone Living With You If you are filling out the census for your home, you should count everyone who is or will be living there as of April 1, 2020. This includes anyone—related or unrelated to you—who lives and sleeps at your home most of the time. Please be sure to count roommates, young children, newborns, and anyone who is renting a space in your home. If someone is staying in your home on April 1 and has no usual home elsewhere, you should count them in your response to the 2020 Census. Please count everyone living in your home. Where there are more people, there are more needs. An accurate count helps inform funding for hospitals, fire departments, schools, and roads for the next 10 years.
I’ve got two forms in the mail Do I count twice or once?? So confused What I kinda laugh about I’m 59 I’ve never filled out one in my life so are they making up for all the times I’ve never gotten one before? Defintly typical government sloppiness
I don't understand why they don't compile this information from income ta forms. Doesn't that have all the information on it?
Not everybody HAS to file income tax. And, some people have been born, and some have died. There is different information needed for the census that is NOT in tax forms.
I got two in the mail as well, BUT, the 12 character alpha numeric ID was the same for both. The census is only conducted every 10 years. Maybe you just forgot?
I was expecting something similar to the ridiculous 2017 census, which had detailed questions about bank accounts & balances (no; it was legitimate, not a scam). That one I never submitted. This one almost asked too few questions.
Economic Census, that is different. Not everyone gets that. https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/economic-census.html
I'm not sure people have very good comprehension of writing or they are too thin-skinned. I have my form in front of me and no where does it seem threatening. It asks you to fill out your form online. It says if you don't they will mail a paper questionnaire to your address in a few weeks. (Probably after April 1st.) It also says by law your response is required. Ohhhh, scary! It goes on to say if they do not get a response they will have to send an interviewer to your "stubborn a$$"(my words) house to collect your answers. IMO I'd like to be the first to congratulate anybody who doesn't fill out the form online, or at least the paper form, for making the government spend more money on visits to your house by strangers potentially carrying a virus around with them. Now that is a threat!
After reading the responses to how quick it was to do, I just took mine to get it over with. Now, to be fair, I live alone, so that makes it easier. But I honestly was done filling it out in 3 minutes.
Same letter I got, but I did get 2 of them right away like Roy.....Like I said, 3 minutes and a done deal.
