I drove my 73 Apollo with the 430 to Epping a couple years ago. I failed tech due to a cracked windshield. This was after I thrashed on it for a month straight to get there. I was expecting mid 12s with some traction..
There was a fella way back in early 2000's had a white 69,..running 11.70s talk to him several times at BG
I had a stk bore 430.......in fact the short block was right from the junk yard having 3x,000. Put my ported iron 455 heads that were converted to stage 1 valves, custom crowder cam lots of duration but only a tick over 500 lift ......ported sp1 intake, 950cfm 4150, 4000 stall with 4.10 gear . Went 11.25@118mph on the footbrake with 30x9 Hoosiers, shifting 58/58. We were over 3800 car and driver back then
IMO it is very important to add what is the going down the track weight of the vehicle while running the specific ET. Generally speaking because of the cubes and slightly more shrouding of the valves a 430 should be able to get close to what a similarly prepared 455 can do.
A 1.38 short time is pretty stout for 3650 lbs, 3.42 gears, and 28" tires. What's the secret to your success?
My Riv did a best of 13.7 something at sea level in good air. When she was bone stock it was running high 16's
