Will be putting steel wheels on soon They'll be painted body color (which I know was not correct for 15" but the car is silver and I think body color will look good) Ive read the 15's came with trim rings but I never see anyone use them. All the pictures I find are just the dog dishes. Anyone have a picture of a car with trim rings and dog dishes?
I had an original 70 Diplomat Blue Stage 1 4-speed car that came with the 15" steel wheels, dog dishes, and trim rings. I know the car was restored that way.......and if I remember correctly the wheels were silver. I don't remember if they could come in body colors or not. I know some 14" rims came that way, depending on the exterior car color. Duane
At that price you'll be lucky to go a year before they lose their shine or fall off. Good sets go for 5-6 hundred. This guy has an excellent reputation. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RESTORED-S...882378?hash=item23a0568e0a:g:Oq4AAOSw~e5ZTo43
Correct Korrie. A Chevy part...yeeeeech! The originals have a stepped edge- http://www.firebirdcentral.com/15_x_7_Rally_Wheel_Trim_Rings_Stepped_Edge_Set_4_p/whe-15.htm
I always wonder why you hardly see them too. They would've been silver anyway, so in your case worst case you're off a shade w/body color although IMHO a different shade of silver would actually look better. With the trim rings you hardly see any of the wheel anyway. Look at @Rich Johns avatar - it has them. I thought it was SS396.com that had decent repros, but could be mistaken. NOS are (at least were) pretty abundant. I watched eBay for a while and picked up a set not too long ago for under $300 IIRC. I think orig. had round hole for the VS and later NOS have oval hole.
Originals as used on 1970-71 GS had four mounting clips and oval hole for valve stem. Part number 9796696 was first used on 1967 Corvette which had four mounting clips, and the round valve stem hole. The valve stem hole was changed sometime between 1967 and 1970. Multiple mounting clips and oval valve stem holes are mostly what is available now.
According to my documentation, in a notice dated November 1969, Buick is informing the dealers that effective immediately, option F4 has been discontinued due to poor sales. In the second notice, date July 31st, 1970, Buick is telling the dealers that "as previously mentioned, option F4 has been discontinued due to extremely low usage". So by the 71 model year, the option seemed to be unavailable
Difficult option to replicate these days. NOS Dog Dish $500. NOS Trim Rings $500. NOS WD wheels $500. Repro G/60/15s $1400. Total $2900. My car came with that option, all that was left of it is the unused G/60/15 spare on a WD wheel.
The notice mentions that the F4 option has been discontinued on model GS-43437. What about the 44637 (GS455)? Could it be that they only discontinued it for the GS35o and not the 455 cars?
