You can go this route also, nice info in this thread http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/b-m-governor-recalibration-kit.134999/#post-1037344 Or do a search in the "juice box" for other threads on the subject http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/governor-recalibration-kit-qs.65171/#post-496395 Someone had posted an article from the GSCA newsletter on this also, maybe Larry has it or knows how to find it.
However, you can take pride in knowing that 14.9 to 15.50's is what alot of base model Big block muscle cars ran stock, SS396's , LS3 and 5 454's , 429's etc
Well there is the quote of the day. Couldn't have said it better myself. It don't get it on till 3500 rpm. 3000 stall in that 200r4 with a lockup convertor and it will be a killer. Probably run at about 2400 rpm at 70 mph with a 28" tire.
I used to run a 14.89 a long time ago with just a 268 Comp Cam and stock engine with the low compression motor 71 350, stock convertor and a 373 gear with 28" tire. So I would say you did pretty good. Now all you have to do is just get consistent times at the track and you will kill it. I was very consistent with that time since the tires did not spin out of the hole at the track with the DR's on. Work on the 60 ft time with the shooters in the carb then work on that staging light and just make some extra $$ on a Friday night of racing. Get that engine temp down to 155 before going to the staging lanes and the car will run consistent. Sometimes you can't and it gets hotter but that is why you change that dial in in between rounds. Rock an Roll.
Went to track Last night and got it down to 14.7@ 95mph. Put a tach in and shifted thru the automatic at 5000 rpm. Knocked off 2 tenths.
Just adding in some new info for interested parties for my reply which is pertinent to this thread, #16. My advice is go with the add-ons first, then nitrous. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...-in-the-mild-built-engines-350-or-455.333148/
Wed night broke the GS during burnout. starting running bad like on 4 cylinders and no power at all. Did run a better 14.6 on 1st run. Still trying to figure out what happened. Definitely wont be attending GS nats now. That saved money has to fix the motor.
It maybe something simple, everything breaks before the Nationals, it's always been that way for most of us, of course there are the guys that can run thru a cow pasture blindfolded and never step in ****, but I've always been the guy that slipped in it after 4 steps and the folded over the barbwire ha
Okay guys you're gonna get him addicted, he'll spend too much money and then he'll blame us. Ha, ha, ha... Mikey
For everyone reading that has never ran their car through the quarter mile, just because this guy's car broke there just means that he found the weak link for his car there and not on the street! A good running car with no problems will have no problems at the track, if you do have a problem it may show itself there.
In comparison to the 455 Buick, no, the 350 does not make the MASSIVE torque, but I believe the 350 Buick DOES out torque most other small blocks
You did better than me first time out! I was spinning first and second BFG Radial TA's don't work on the track.
Your NOT happy yet Keep at it, your quicker than that! You have the basis for 13's Your slicks WITH the factory convertor is definitely bogging the engine at the start I'm sure.
X2. I noticed your 60 ft. time in the time-slip you posted was 2.3 sec. That's because of the stock converter not allowing the motor to rev into the power band off the line. A real low cost upgrade to a better converter (<$500) should get your short times down below 2.0. If you are running 14.6 now, a 1.9 60 ft. would put you at close to 14 flat and possibly into the high 13s. I'd do a converter before doing anything else. Talk to Jim Weise of this board for great converter deals.
Keep us posted on what broke. Hopefully it's a bent pushrod or broken rocker, something simple and cheap....Also, put up your latest time slips. 14.6 is pretty good for a 350, I see folk with Big Blocks that cant pull that off.
Stangman,... this is a 350 buick motor I put together for my sons skylark, the head work is what made this car come to life along with some tuning... My goal was to leave the short block as is, and just throw good parts at it and set the car up to see what happens... surprisingly it stayed together... lol http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/70-post-skylark-350-sbb-back-at-the-track.290254/
