Haydn is gettin super excited about his engine build now! Picked up the roller lifters, roller rockers, mount kit, roller timing chain, double springs, retainers, keepers, and cam button this afternoon. Tried posting pictures, but for some reason, the code is a mile long, and I have no idea why it's like that...tried posting pictures on another site, and had zero issues...tried posting the same picture here, and it's no where close to the same code.....
Looking into purchasing an air/fuel ratio gauge. Whats everyone using, or, what's a popular wideband that is accurate? Looking at the Autometer 3378, just wondering if there are any as good for less, or is that the going price for them?
This is the one I am using, http://www.jegs.com/i/AEM/017/30-41...nel=Shopping&gclid=CJ7t3ZSPu9ICFY6IswodyN8Pug JW recommended it to me several years ago. Seems to work great.
The NTK is probably the best for the money as it comes with the NTK sensor, the AEM may have the Bosch 4.9 which is good as well..the Bosch 4.2 sensors aren't that great
The add says it comes with the Bosch 4.9 sensor. I mean...it's close to half the price of the Autometer one I was looking at...
Yea the AEM is good one no doubt, some retailers still sell the older ones with the 4.2 sensor, what you have coming will work just fine. Autometer is REALLY proud of their wideband stuff for sure
Put it on the drivers side... And pull number 3 spark plug as we find it is normally the leanest of all 8 for some reason.
I have the AEM also, COOLEST GAUGE I HAVE! Its awesome as a tuning tool, I'm glad I heeded the advice of those "In the know" on the board here, otherwise your shooting in the dark so to speak, its like running without knowing where your oil pressure is at.
does the roller rockers come with install instructions? I believe that the mounting stands need to be machined to make clearance for the bottom of the rockers. Anyone have info on this? I have a set of used ebay rockers that had the rockers damaged from the clearance issue. I did not need the rockers cause I needed the solid shafts to put the 69 stock rockers on. Dan
I asked Tim about anything special having to be done with the heads for these to work, and he said no. He did say we would need taller valve covers, and I said we already had the TA Performance cast aluminum covers...and he said we should be good. I asked about the clearance issue, and what needed to be machined by them, (if you wanted them to do it for you.) and he said the springs are not that big, even though they are dual springs, they won't interfere with the rockers. Only other thing he suggested was the mounting kit for the rockers...which we also purchased.
Thanks to Jim Weise for calling me back today, and getting a new 9 1/2" converter set up for Haydn's car.
Unless TA changed the rocker body, you will have to clearance the rocker towers/pedestals on the sides, the bottom of the rocker will scrub. Very easily done tho with a small right angle air grinder. Do this when the heads are bare. There is no clearance issue between the springs and rockers.
Yeah, just read that in the instructions... We will have to take the rockers in to the shop for fitting before they assemble the heads.
Such a small amount of clearance between the bottoms of the rockers and the pedestals. Haydn set the rockers on, and found where they had to be clearanced. He pretty much pushed me out of the way, so I just said to "Go slow, and check the clearance a few times...it's easier to take more material off, because you can't put it back on."
yes easy job just clean them up well... I felt like a jerk because I sold a set of roller rockers recently and forgot that the heads needed clearancing and they had to take it apart and clearance the heads after...
