Getting ready to pull Transmission out because of seal leak. loosing fluid. 72 Stage1 BB . I have an (new) ATI 11" Treemaster Stall is 2800 Want to fresh'n up Tranny. If I put Trans-go Shift kit in and go full manual. This won't change my valve body Shift from 3-1 at 30-40 mph ( special buick valve body) Can someone chime in. Automobile Painters don't know much about these things! help! And if there is alternatives/ better ideas please tell!
Trans-go has (3) kits Witch kit is best suited for Hurst Dual Gate Shifter (four speed guys) please don't laugh. Also do I need the Reverse kit (springs) ??? do not want to touch valve body! unless u guys know how it can be dialed in without messing with kick down valve (3) gear to(1) st gear

Larry if 5200 is close to factory. where should I go ? Can you give me a safe Number? I've talked to you in the past about my complete set-up. With that ATI 11" 2800 stall 3:42 rear Shift kit. where would you go. how high RPM?
With that big of a converter and 3.42 gears, you are likely to have a firmer shift but it will be soaked up by the converter at anything below 4000 RPM. Make sure you run a very good cooler on that trans with that converter.
But won't a "good" shift kit make car shift harder? I don't know? Or does that happen when you adjust govenor set at higher rpm.? ( don't know much about tuning transmissions ) Driving you guys crazy until the light comes on! Ha!
It depends on your cam and bottom end. I think 5500 is a safe number. Harder shifts = less slippage = less wear and less heat.
I would buy a spare THM400 governor and play with that. What you need to do is clip the stock axles off and replace the inner weights with lighter ones from the kit. The axles in the kit are reusable as they have small C clips on each end. You can disassemble and assemble them many times, just have to make sure you don't lose the clips. I would replace JUST ONE weight at a time, then road test the car and see what difference it makes, then go from there. Once you get to where you want with the weights, the springs can fine tune your adjustment. It is trial and error and time consuming. With the spare governor, you don't need to worry because you can always throw the stock one back in and continue on another day.
Larry.perfect timing! pulling Tranny Saturday morning. Taking to my trans. guy. I will buy a spare. If I put that Trans/-go shift kit. It won't interfere with that Trans shifting to 1st gear When I punch it at 30 mph. Will it????
No, that is valve body calibration and has to do with the size of the shift valves in the valve body. Read this, http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/SPTrans.htm
Larry trannys done. I guess Ill have to Grind weights on governor. He said he's afraid to ruin governor he said he used the springs in calibration kit. Have you personally grind down those weights?
No, because if you grind too much off, you can't go back. Hence the idea of using a spare governor to play with.
Ok will do. I will go to "parts wanted" and find me spare. Just wish I had a gear head Ace mechanic to help me with this. I have a guy at work that's like you Larry but people are to busy most of the time to be bothered . That's why I'm driving you crazy. One way to figure out is just Do It. Thanks for all your advice and time. You have been very helpful.
