You all talk of the 2-3 shift but will the gov mod raise the 1-2 shift as well? Im generally happy with the way the car shifts 2-3 but the 1-2 is way early. I've been thinking about this governor mod for awhile.

Steve, it isn't rocket science, just time consuming. With the parts in the kit, it is easy to change the weights. Just do yourself a favor, change ONE thing at a time and test to see what effect it had.

The weights get you in the ball park, the springs fine tune and get the 2 shifts closer together or further apart. You might need to change 1 weight and a spring. It is tune and test, time consuming. Usually, it is the opposite, 1-2 is good, but 2-3 is a bit lower. A spring change can fix that.

can't wait to tune this baby up! This is what makes building a car (drag car) fun! You know street/ strip. I'll be looking for you in couple weeks/ months I'll keep you posted. Let you know how this is working for me. I understand you have been doing this for years! Don't mean to bore you. Thanks making this easier

I just replaced one of my weights on my gov. with a lighter one (took off a 13.5 gram and installed a 6.5 gram)
Bought the B&M kit a few years ago and have been tinkering with it since then. VERY time consuming, and you HAVE to work slowly.
Take baby steps with changing weights, as you don't want to go from a 4800 rpm 1-2 shift to 6000 rpm, creep up on it.
On my 71 GS 350, its a pain to access the gov. cover. Unbolt trans mount, jack trans up, unbolt crossmember and slide back, remove gov cover slide out, then play with the weights. The biggest pain for me are those damn springs, sliding them back onto the raised nubs:mad:

I'm assuming you took off one of the inners (inside weight) Give me some specifics! Trying to figure out these Govenors. Thanks Mark.!

Good advice. Write down each change, and drive it for a while to see the total response. You won't get
there in an hour. I bought a package of long cotter pins for weight pivots. Bruce Roe
