I like the look of your white car! I think the front could be a little lower than that. I'm thinking of doing a stock height rear with 1 or 2 inch lowering coils in the front. Not sure yet.
Now that you mention it, got me thinking and looking. 1 inch lower in front might look better, two might be too much for me anyway. Or I could drop in a 455 in place of the 300. That would improve the stance a little!:Brow: Where would you get some springs that for sure would give 1 inch but not more or less?
I've seen 2" lowering coils, have to do some searching for 1". I suppose you could do small block springs with a big block. Mine will have the BB 400. The 1/4 panels aren't cut out as high at the top of the arch as the fenders, so that's part of the problem too.
Thanks, I might go that route. I'm suspicious of my left front spring anyway. Driver side is slightly lower but haven't figured out why for sure. It's one of those things nobody but me notices, but I'm the one that counts! Rear end was changed from a 4:11 to stock 2:78 but everything back there looks equal. These springs don't cost much and might be just the ticket!
275/50 is 27.1 tall, but harder to find, in going 255/50 on the rear and 215/50 on the front with 17's
I've pretty well settled on 17" and most likely the American Racing 200S wheels. 225/50 17's are 26" tall to maintain stock overall gearing. Now, just figuring out the best place to get them from. So far the best price I have seen is Summit which I find hard to believe an actual tire store can't match or beat their prices. Choices.
17" tires are so cheap nowdays. I made the switch to 17" last summer and run Sumitomo HTZ-II 275/40-17's on my '72. I'd never go back to 15" unless they were a set of M/T SS's on Buick ralleys, and free.
Have you checked Tire Rack ? http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp You can search by size and they have a nice rating system. Lots of installers too. Bought the 235/50-17's for mine there. Running 215/50-17's on front.
Yah, tirerack is one of my bookmarks that I frequently use. They don't have the wheels but they do have the tires I would like. Interesting, their west coast warehouse is just outside Reno and about a four hour drive for me. Usually I just arrange for a pickup instead of paying shipping and get a little Reno time in the process.
Dan, what tires you running? only thing in a 215 I can find is Kumhos, I found 225s in falken. will 225s fit the front? going with 255 on the rear so 225s would look better on the front.
I run Hankook 225/50/17 in the front and 255/45/17 in the rear. Make sure you have at least 4.5 BS on your wheels.
Mike, my tires are General Exclaim UHP 235/50 and 215/50. They must not have been very popular as they are not made any more. I bought them based on the Tire Rack rating. Wanted something that was good in the wet and dry with low tire noise. Are you sure that the 255/50's will not rub ? The 245/50 has a 9.7" section width vs. the 10.4" of the 255/50. Originally had 235/50's on the front and they rubbed going into and out of driveways or on real tight turns. The 225 probably would have been OK but I knew the 215 would work so I went with that as it looked fine with the 235 rear tires I had changed to. The section width of the 225/50 is only .3" more. Oh yeah wheels are 17x8 and 17x7. Backspacing is 4.75" and 4". The Kumho Ecsta STP has a good rating. If you decide to go with 245s and 215s look into the General G-Max AS-03. Not rated yet though. It also comes in 225/50. Best of luck with your choices.
somewhere in my search I found somebody said 215/50 and 255/50 will fit. right now im looking at nexen n7000s. can get all 4 for 412.
I went with 16x8 and got a smokin deal on the wheels and tires, I would have gone with 17s but these just to good of a deal to say no too.
I run 8x17 American Racing AR500 Wheels. 225/45R17 in front and 245/45R17 rear. I use Global West upper control arms and tall spindle from B-body and 12" discs in front. Works great for me !
Mike, Nice looking car but I might be a bit prejudiced. Did you notice that car was running 17x8's up front. The 17x7s will save a half inch in clearance vs. his car so the 225's should be fine. Post some pictures of yours when you get it set up.
