Where's the "Because your father-in-law talked you into it" option

To tell the truth I was looking for a Chevelle when I decided I wanted an older car. Surprising because Dad has a 75 LeSabre Convertible and a 66 Olds Delta 88.

My father-in-law was visiting at the time from Canada, and he always had Oldsmobiles (442) growing up. So he was searching the auto traders for "another kind of A-body"

He found a 72 within a couple hrs, red, convertible, right price.
Made me call about it. That was on a Saturday, the owner said he was going out for a show and to come look on Sunday... I agreed.
After I hung up, my father-in-law says "call him back and tell him we're coming now, if that car is good enough for a show it must be nice"

So I did just that. Made the drive, and as soon as I saw the car in this guys driveway I knew I was not leaving without it.

Made a deal, he let me use his plate to drive it home, and he took a personal check! (kept the title until it cleared)

While we were making the deal his cell phone must have rang 10 times for people wanting to look at the car. Then his wife comes out of the house and asks if he's ready and he says "Honey I just sold the car!" LOL He had bought a ford woodie wagon.. late 40's I believe .. that's why he was selling the Buick.

So in the end, Im pretty happy my father-in-law had that much effect on me, and glad I don't have a Chevelle (even though I still like them)

How about Its in my heart and soul as a choice :Do No:

I was born and raised a Buick nut by my dad and 3 older brothers.

My dads car when I was a kid was a '69 Electra 225 that my brothers stuck a '70 Stage1 in for him:3gears:

My dad also bought each one of his 4 sons a '64 Buick when we got our lisences:Brow:

Im the only one that still has his '64 and Ill keep it until the day I die:TU:

Because where I live heaps of guys put bowties on their Holdens. Yet they never put the Buick Badge on the Holden Commodore when it had the Buick V6 in it. Guys are even putting the Bowtie badge on the Holden Monaro Aka Pontiac GTO. Thats why I went Buick and Twin turbo 350 Buick at that. Different. I don't get it Holden make and desigen good cars!A Crazy New Yorker drove up beside me the other day shouting to pull over so I did. I thought somthing was wrong but he just wanted to talk about Buick and how cool they were when he was a teenager in New York. He also mentioned the Australian obsession with Chevrolet, I couldn't disagree with the guy at all.

I own a Buick because that's what my family has been driving for over 50 years. I wanted a GTO for my 16th birthday but with 5 Buick mechanics in the family I was given a 71 Skylark Custom. At the time, to me it was an ugly gold color with old lady hubcaps. After adding some Buick rims and some upgrades from my uncle to include a cam, lifters, headers and exhaust I was really enjoying my Buick. I let it go about 4 years later and man do I regret that move.
Well here I am 20 years later and thanks to Chris (CSTANLEY) I now have another Buick in the family, 72 GS Convertible! I think my kids are enjoying it as much a I am. Guess I'll hold on to this one and pass it down in the family.

I've had a 74 Charger, 70 Malibu, 72 Challenger, 59 Chevy Apache, 70 Challenger, 71 Valiant, 71 Duster (mom's old rustbucket) before I found my 70 Skylark. The Duster, although it had sentimental value, needed much more than I could give it. A full resto would have cost more than the car was worth. Sadly, I had to let it go.

I happened to be in the right place at the right time buying the Skylark with a good-buddy discount attached. This is the nicest shape car I've had and I plan to hang on to it for quite a while. A 455 is in work for it and I can't wait to get it done. I call myself a Mopar guy, but man, they are expensive and can be tough to work on.

I enjoy old cars because they are different, turn heads, sound amazing, are fun to take to shows, and are fun to work on. The reactions I get from the Skylark are funny. People "think" it is a Chevelle, GTO, or 442 and spend quite a few minutes trying to figure it out before they give up and ask. I have no Skylark emblems, but it does say Buick on the front and back.

When I saw the poll, it was almost all of the above. But the number one reason has to be these two cars. The 4dr. is my Dad's (picture taken early 70's) on one of our off road adventures, and the 2dr. is mine I bought a few years later.
I wanted to re-live that feeling I had when I was riding in and driving these cars.
    It works!

The first car that I can remember thinking "that's a cool car" was my Grandpa's 65 Wildcat, I took my DL test in a '74 225, and was supposed to buy my Grandmas '72 Skylark when I was 17, but it got t-boned 2 weeks before I had the money for it. I now own a custom shop, and the only choice for me was a '65 Riviera. Bought one last weekend for $1200, and have big plans for it. I can't wait to drive it!

    1) Dad raced Buicks - even had a nailhead in his 37 Chev coupe.
    2) my 1st car was a skylark with a pointy nose
    3) I wished I had this skylark instead of the skylark with a pointy nose
    4) 455/4speed - it doesn't get any better than this

I happened to buy a 67 LeSabre  in 1976 as my second car, then while driving down the road with a friend, he spotted what I thought was a 1971 "Chevelle" :Do No: and he told me that it was a Buick GS. I didn't believe it at first, so checked it out, just had to have it, bought it for $2000, and sold the LeSabre for $700. Still have the 71 GS, after several different makeovers.:3gears:

Father was dealership service manager...I grew up a Buick gearhead. Built '40 Special Business Coupe w/425. Put in "export" cam kit, 2X4 intake, Schiefer flywheel/clutch, '38 Roadmaster trans, to stock 4.10 rear...like driving something different...

Fast forward thru school, wife, kids, career...to old age and nostalgia. Buick has some ready-to-go hot rods. Couldn't decide cubic inches or "high" tech...so, got one each...:TU:

    RUSSTBUTT '65 Special & '68 Skylark

Mine is a '65 Special - and we have a history. My High school car, got engaged in the car at 19. Married. College. Sold it to a friend 16 years ago, got it back 2 years ago. It always gets comments, body is solid. It is different than most others but always a looker.

Never get rid of her again!

My parents grew up owning Buicks so they kept buying them, for me I always thought of them or any muscle car as a race car when I little cause of how loud they were. Then my dad bought a 73 Stage 1 car when I was in middle school and passed it onto me last year. I'm only 23 and having a great time everytime I take it out.

We have several reasons why we bought the Limited. Mainly for an advertisement but also it was a good price. Not to mention its certainly different from most of the classics we see at the local car shows.
Interesting to see the results of the poll and the comments!

I had a nice 1970 ZC Fairlane in my garage, but then I spotted the 65 Riviera on the net. I just fell in luv. So Fairlane out, Riviera in.
