It's quite possible the KB ones were different . . . but I don't see how much different they could be? o No: I think, and this is just my opinion, that you should just get one from VFN. Pretty sure it's going to work for what you're planning on doing; UNLESS, you absolutely have to have that Kenne-Bell name. (I did on my flex-fan) ou: I've got an ugly hood scoop you can have- I'll see if I can dig out a picture. BTW- I stopped in to annoy you at work, but you conveniently switched your day off with Chuck. ARGH!
Yeah, but I wonder what's going on inside his head? :idea2: I think his new-found fondness of history is melting his brain? If I remember correctly, I thought the KB scoops were molded from the original on his Reynolds car. Well, either that one, or the Jones/Benesik "Light Your Fire" car. It would only make sense the KB scoops were molded from the Reynolds car. I'm still searching for a color photo of the Reynolds car when it was owned and raced by the Kenne-Bell "team".
I'm going fiberglass with the hood for my race car...bought the hood from Tom R this past weekend. Nice looking hood btw that he did a lot of work to make it look good, the hood is a VFN. OK, here's the scoop on the scoop:laugh: . And I realize now that I say this, no one will want to sell there KB scoop. I have an NOS Kenne-Bell scoop, but I have that one for my display I'm making to go along with all my other stage2 and related stuff, so that one isn't going on my race car...and yes Jim Bell says he used the one from the Reynolds car to reproduce the ones he sold. The KB scoop is made much better than the VFN scoop and is a more direct copy of the original. The VFN is actually a little shorter than the metal and KB scoops. Also the KB has the correct slight upward curve on the top front just like the original. Plus the fiberglass is a hair thicker. I guess I can modify the VFN and that is probably what I am going to do...but the KB looks cool with the KENNE-BELL name molded into the back of it. Thanks John for recking any hope as to me finding one:moonu: :moonu: ! You can just me (I always thought thats what that dude looked like he was doing!)
That looks soooo friggin' dirty! UGH! Well, I didn't wreck any of your hope of finding one; you're the one talkin' up a storm there. :bla:
I would like to get all the measurements on the metal one so I can make another one for my X,or maybe for others. The one on my car now was made by copying a fiberglass one from Posten Ent. that I had, it sure was hard to do but learned as I was making it. The scoop still needs work to be perfect, I am going to take it off during the winter and make another one. Denny Manner said there was a metal ring mounted to the under side of the hood to seal to hood to the air cleaner, so that will be something else for me to do.
Yes, I have that metal ring. I "think" I posted close ups of everything including the ring somewhwere on here in someones thread. Let me know what measurements you're looking for.
Have some reproductions made! I'd buy one. The VFN ones are kinda "junky" from what I've heard lately.
We know Doug. I think that's what David was hinting at. You didn't by chance win that auction did you?
OK why doesn't somoene get that scoop and graft it into a hood and make a 1 piece unit. There is a guy on the board thats making nice raised fiberglass hoods get my idea? Lift offs for us poor guys and hinged ones for the more well to do
Guy, With that NOS scoop, can you get overall measurements of it, as in a 3D CAD file? I may be able to do something with the scoop that no one else here can do for you... (reproduce it, in materials other than fiberglass, depending on quantities/cost/demand)!:Smarty::Brow:
