Crap... I was out beating on it last night. It starts skipping and backfiring through the intake so I stop and there is a terrible clatter under the driver's side valve cover. BTW it is nearly impossible to remove the valve cover with the turbo manifold in the way.. Anyone care to guess what I found???
Well somehow, even with blue locktite, one of the roller rocker studs backed out. If you been following this all along, you'll remember that this is not the first time it has happened. I have the roller rocker conversion kit with 1.6rrs. I guess I will take both sides apart and have the studs welded in place. Once it starts tapping it's only a short period before it works it's way ALL the way out and the rocker falls off. It was almost off. It's very possible that if the rocker falls off the lifter could be pushed of of its' bore.. Just something else to do..
Forget the blue, clean it up good and use RED loctite. Blue isn't half as strong as red but the area must be oil free. http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/10/15/t_lkr_red/overview/Loctite-Threadlocker-Red-271.htm
After struggling like hell to get all of the other studs out, and this one just screws in and out with my fingers, I just might be guilty of missing this one with the locktite. I bought some red stuff... Hmmmmmm. Should I pull the other valve cover off??????
volvo makes a very strong metal locking compound if you never intend to remove the item. p.m. me if you want the part #.
I just had about the most fun you could ever have with a car. It's still hot (86) here but I deciced t go out anyway. I went by my machinists place to show him the car. He's a big Buick guy. He has a 1600HP TT V6 race car.. I took him for a ride, and he said "Damn son, I'm really impressed".. Then he pulled out his camera and started taking pictures.. He couldn't believe how hard it pulled. Then, I went to the Cruise in in a nearby city for about an hour. There were at least 100 cars there, and a crowd gathered around when I opened the hood. Of course, no one had ever seen anything like it and could not believe how quiet and smooth it ran. I just left it idling while I walked around and looked at all of the other cars. It seemed to have the most "awe" factor when you realized it was running and you really couldn't hear it. No one knew what it was.. One guy asked how I moved the distributor to the front of the engine..:spank: This thing pulls like freeking crazy. I drove it about 80 miles today in the 86 degree heat. It never even got to 190. 70 mph on the highway. I pulled up at home and left the car in the driveway and not one little drop of anything leaked.. THis was worth every bit of time and effort and heartache that it took to get to this point. This is everthing I wanted it to be. Unless something breaks.. What a fun car.. Hopefully track times on Sunday..
ou:LOL at that!! I know a buick guy, when someone asks him that, he jumps into this long explanation of; :Smarty:machining a new timing cover, new cam shaft, new oil pump, etc. When he is through "explaining" how he moved the distributor, he just waits for...... "Why, did you go to all that troubleuzzled:?" He then will say, it makes the points so much easier to set.:Brow:
When asked that I just say Buick took all of the good ideas from the other automakers and made one good engine.
Should be nice weather this weekend unless it turns to crap in the next few days.. Shooting for this weekend.
