ok so with over 800 ponies in my GS I figured I had done the law of averages had been tested enough. I want to take off the alunimum drums and go with disc fronts. What kit has anyone used and what do you think of the kit? Where did you get it? you know all that kind of stuff
Tons of variables: Are you wanting to run stock size wheels? Do you want stock appearance? Budget? You can find stock set-ups for around $250-300 but usually it will cost you $250+ to rebuild it just to be on the safe side - calipers, shoes, lines, master, wheel bearings, turning rotors (or new depending on condition), etc. Or you can spend $1500+ for the fancy 13" rotor set-ups. I've recently dealt with All GS and he was very helpful in getting me what I needed. Might want to talk to him for your needs. I lucked out and bought a stock set off of a 71 chevelle for $70. I needed the hard lines which are being supplied by All GS.
if you dont mind 17s you can go with the lsx camaro/covertte disc/rotor swap http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-4...X&its=C%2BS&itu=SI%2BUA%2BLM%2BLA&otn=5&ps=63 this is a front/rear disc combo at a good price @860 rear only is 389 shipped fronts kit is 508 also a hydratech hydro boost setup could be worthwhile
ok, well the ebay link i posted was for 15in rims and a 315-35 on 17x11s could very well do him good also in drag radial form never really got interested in 17s enough to see if they have strait up slicks though
I think wilwood offers a 4piston front brake kit thats comparable to C5 kit. Summit has it for i think 800 or so. Fits under 15" wheels. Same type of deal for the rear.
Hi Micheal, Tobin at Kore3 Brakes is a super nice guy and I'm sure he has lots of info to share, even if his stuff doesn't fit your needs. I have his C6 vette stuff for my 70 Skylark and it fits great, but I have 18s and 17s now.
what dont you like about the kits above? I agree the Kore3 kits are pretty awesome. You can also try scarebird.com for C4 brakes, but they require 16" wheels.
A 10 second car I would go with period GM stuff upgrade the rotors and pads I found slotted rotors for 120.00 for the pair. Should work fine.
You can tuck these under 15s no problem. Price aint bad either. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WIL-140-2285-B/
There are a couple diffrent stock type kits on eBay between 450-700. They come with everything. Booster, master, calipers, brackets, bearings, rotors, lines, hardware and anything else you need for a front disc brake system.
Willwood, Disks all the way around on my race car, had aluminum drums, before, I got all the stuff from our great friends at Finishline Motorsports! About 5 years ago, or so.
