Help Wanted! From the picture posted by Mark, I've identified all of the old lettering/decals on my car except one. Anyone know the triangular AP&M decal on the very back of the quarter? Calling all old racers:laugh:
Thanks Jim for the link, but I was hoping to find out what business is associated with this decal. :3gears:
Don't get me wrong Jim, I do appreciate the effort.:TU: AP&M is Automotive Parts & Machine, established in 1965 and still machining/building engines. I talked with the owner Stan Brown today; he remembered "Daddy's Toy" and is still in contact with Mr. Jackson who originally ran the car. The folks at AP&M were nice enough to offer me a new set of AP&M decals for my project. Too cool! Amazing what is possible with the Internet.
I found the picture on another site of the dragster that I was thinking of: Anyway, the question was asked: "why is the starter over on the side of the track, and isn't he about to get mowed down?" Well, I may have some insight here - The other night I was watching some old home movies (converted to video) of drag racing in about 1963. In the days before Christmas trees and electronic timers these old dragsters were physically pushed to the starting line by crewmembers (today we would say they were "pushed into the beams") - typically one at the rear and often one pushing on the slick(s) and sometimes even one pushing on the front wheel. As soon as the car was staged, I mean the car BARELY stops rolling, the crewmembers scatter and the car lights up down the track. Launching the car occurs almost immediately. I saw this time and time again as I watched that old tape. I'm guessing that's your "right front wheel crew man", not the starter. He was a little slow on the draw and he is hustling to get out of the way as the car is launching. FWIW - K
Mark- They were taken at Sioux City Iowa when they raced at the airport...is info i got off the net. ***Edit*** After looking into it more there were some shot's taken at Minnesota Dragways.
It sure does make you wonder where all these old drag cars are? Are they still drag cars, repainted in more modern trim, or long gone, or sitting in vintage paint in a barn somewhere or..........o No: Neat pics, keep them coming:TU: Glen, where was your "Daddys Toy" run(which state)?
