Timing is everything !?! I do have my 350-2 timed early this summer (new set of point , new dist.) and that was not the same car at all ! Even on cold/humid days the car drive better with no hesitation . and the wheels really spins ! :3gears: But at the end of the season the "problem" reapear , when the engine was cold in morning I have to take care not to stall on stop or at red light .. I have to learn to do the timing and replace point on my car
Wow,I came across this thread and thanks to all and the forum because now I feel like I have a new car.:grin: I couldn't spin the tires either and just excepted the fact I'm getting good traction from the tires,because the car ran good and I could still chirp second gear with the shift kit.But I do have a 350 with headers,a small cam,some port work,and even though it's an open rear I always felt it should have more.So after reading this,I went out and retimed the car.My marks don't line up correctly,so I just timed it by ear and advanced it and backed off a little.Well,I take the car out and from a dead stop I pounced on it and left a 30 foot patch,and I had to ease up because I scared myself:3gears:.WOW what a difference,amazing what a little timing can do.Thanks V8 Buick :beers2: .
Power brake it and see how high your RPM's get. My friend has the same problem with his vette. I tuned his chevy to "just right" but still would not break the tires loose. His converter would not let him go over 1500 RPM. A too tight converter could be the problem.
I'm still having the same problem.... though mine does bog, but very little. As most of you know its the '73 350 with a 292 erson cam in it. http://www.erson-cams.com/pdf/BuickCaddy.pdf If it is the one I'm thinking it is 4 BBL and headers are recomended I have no headers though... But I'm not sure of my exhaust being 2 1/2 and I think I've read on this site that headers are not to great if you don't have a 2 1/2 inch exhaust on it. Mine will not catch a tire at all.... It could be the lack of gear...In my opinion it is... open 2.56... But I do have to say from a dead stop its slow... from a rolling start even if its only 15 - 20 mph it accels QUICK. not to fast, the car isn't "fast" by any means but I know it will hold its own against any rice and probably more than a few domestics. But a friend came to check out my car in his moms honda freaking element... a box with wheels! and he spun tires and maybe gotta little smoke cause you could smell it. that makes me sick! P.S. my meaning of "fast" is an 11.5 car... When my car does 11.5, hopefully,maybe, one day... It will still be slow... not that I'm calling 11.5 cars slow... But hey... its a Buick, I figure... It should be "slow"... so when you spank'em you can make some excuse for it running great... I'm hoping to use "well, I know I told you it was about a 15 second car, but I just don't know where those extra 3 and a half seconds came from....kinda spooky really. " :TU:

Oh yeah you can (a one tire burnout anyway...) Basically you just put your foot on the brake and give her some gas and the back tires should break loose and the front end stay still. The water in the box is the key. On dry land low powered cars will just squat a little and burn the trans up.

i've run into several balancer marks that were "off" due to the rubber isolator worn out.one of my customers had this issue. kept tuning the car by the book, car was so slow it was timed with a calender at the track!.lol
If the outer ring of the balancer has slipped that much, you should replace the balancer. You can find true TDC with a piston stop made out of an old sparkplug. Just turn the engine by hand until it hits the stop. Make a mark opposite the 0 on the timing tab. Turn the engine back the other way until it hits the stop again. Make another mark. True TDC is halfway between the 2 marks.
yea this thread shoulda never been made lol... when i first got my buick..had 107k 350 2b only mods were the striatpipes with flow masters...cas had 2.56 open rear with 215-60-15s and i could easilt lay a 30 ft strip..more if i brake torqued.....hell doing a burnout in reverse was easy...actually easier haha and now only mods i actually managed to install since then was a 4v,new cam, and headers..with 275s in the back and (still stock 256) and i can still do a peel out and burnouts..111k now
Break off the ground electrode, then chip out all of the porcelin (this can be time consuming) until you have just the hollow shell. Get a 3/8 X 3 1/2" bolt and cut the hex head off. File the sharp edges round. Tap the inside of the plug shell for 3/8" threads and screw the bolt into the shell. Screw the piston stop into the #1 plug hole and proceed as above. heck i got a 70 455 wildcat that wont break the tires free but..... i tried yesterday and 30 ft down the road it broke free and squalled the tires????????? (low gear and stood on it) i just bought a timing light and am going to start checking everything it has a msd ignition system already. being a 70 455 pegleg it should blister the back tire ( i think) it does pull hard once your going thou...... and it seems to be running a little hot(210 range) scott
I think Justa350 is making kits that should solve everyones inability to spin the tires. :laugh: :3gears:
AH-HA! guess who got those tires to spin today... :grin: I'm not sure how... It was in L1 and it won't do it in drive... I only tried it one time... So I'm guessing the tires got wet some how or something...
cmon chase, get a vacuum gauge, and a timing light so we can help you get it running right. My stock 350s SMOKED the tires even before any mods, justa tune up!
I dunno... With that 2.56 pegleg in I'm a little sceptical. I've got a Vac Gauge the owner before me put one in the car. I just need to go get a timing light and learn how to use one of the darn things. ou:
FYI: When I had my '85 Regal with the stock 2.41 gear and a stock '68 350 in it, I could easily spin the tires.
