Hi, Im looking for a blue gs steering wheel. I can do black as well. The type I see is for later skylarks and I do not know if they would fit.
I have a blue wheel from a '63 Wildcat. (it's blue, but faded so it looks more like turquoise.) No cracks, wrapped with Wheelskin. Had my '64 wheel recast, but still have not got around to swapping it, so it is still in my '64 Skylark. I am not in any hurry to get rid of it, so if you want to look around to see if you can find a '65 GS wheel, it's "on hold" for you to decide.
I had my blue 65 GS wheel recast at Koch's in California. They did a superb job and the color match was perfect. We had a group discount, so it was around 750 plus shipping. I think the total was near 850 but I wanted insured shipping. I would do it again if I needed one.
I was most fortunate to get in on the first group run at $450. (The best quote I found anywhere else before Loren Alexander of 65GS.com made this happen, was $1550 pluss shipping and insurance). So even the later pricing was a bargain for the quality and detail. Koch's stripped the wheels to the metal frame and re-cast, others stated they would "fix and finish as required", and that did not bode confidence for me. My wheel came back, but the plastic wrap "wrinkled" against the wheel's finish and left it marred. They were quick to pre-pay shipping (call ticket) and turned it around in just a few weeks. Given that the run was over, they had to "one off" this wheel in their production schedule, so I made sure they knew I was very pleased at their professionalism. (I know what it takes to get things done when a problem is presented, or what I call "an opportunity to excel" and, apparently, so does Koch's) Now, I am motivated to get my '68 finished prepping for the drive to the Nats, and swap the wheel out on the '64! I'll post a pic when I get done. (and I still have other pics to post in other threads, but been busy dealing with 20 acres of spring...)
